Was in the crotch of a tree in the Okefinokee when a buck came loping down the firebreak. I stuck the barrel of my slug filled shotgun almost to his back and at the shot I splattered blood on myself.

I had climbed down from hunting in some thinned pines one morning and as I was unhooking my harness a doe runs right by me at 10 yards. Right behind her was a 6 pt. He passed me and stopped and was focusing on the doe with his tail to me at 10 yards. He was so zeroed in on that doe that I was able to pick up my gun and bolt a shell in and my pull up rope still attached. I eased my gun to my shoulder and he turned around and took about 3 steps toward me. I shot him at about 20 feet.
First turkey I killed on my Lowndes land I owned was at 5 yards. The shot wad was 20 feet beyond the bird.
My largest turkey ever stepped out from behind some palmettos under 10 yards. He weighed 24lbs. Killed him off catoma creek just outside city limits of Montgomery.
