Made some new arrows for the season this year. Others were looking a little rough. I remember several months back someone asked me to post pics of some I made. I used Minwax English Chestnut on 6 and Early American on the other 6. Fletched them up with real turkey feathers and have broadheads glued to the Early American arrows (pictures in red).

Tested them out and have them at about 14.3 GPI for a total of 579 and 175 FPS. None of those figures are all that astounding. What got me was I got these arrows to a crazy 8.3 F.O.C. The ideal F.O.C. is around 12-15% so I'm really surprised at these. May not be able to ever repeat my work but dang, I'm happy with these. Hopefully the picture attachments work!

Didn't work so I'll repost them.

Very nice!!

I have some turkey feathers I've been saving.

I've got to get a cutter or burner.

God Bless,

Thanks! I would love to have a burner but I use the Little Chopper from 3 Rivers. It works great.

I've got a 3" and 5" shield cut chopper from 3Rivers. Nothing looks better on an arrow than a wild turkey feather. I just can't force myself to use them on my compound arrows.

Shaw, you right about that. I like the looks of wild turkey feathers.
I have orange feathers on my GT shafts now but I think wild turkey would really look good.

Agreed. I love them. I usually walk all over our club in Jackson County looking for them. I have had to break down and buy some from 3 Rivers but its more fun to find them. They look great on arrows, especially woods with a good stain.

For some reason you can't see it in the pics but, they are sealed with Parks Finish in gloss.

I could post a build along for the next set I do.

I've fletched my own arrows for 40 plus years but I've never got in to cutting my own feathers.
I've stained raw shafts and fletched them but mine never looked as good as recurve's arrows..lol

Well in all fairness, I've done several hundred of them in my life. You just have to experiment with what works. Eventually you get into a groove.

This thread made me start looking up all sorts of stuff on making your own arrows and bows. Got some projects I may mess around with here in the future. Cool stuff man.
