Hey guys, so I�m still getting a noise when I�m turning at low speeds (mainly left). I called it a �whine� on a post a few days ago but, after listening to it more I would call it a �honk/grunt� noise. Like a goose is being choked (haha). It�s a 2006 Silverado 4wd. Tried searching through some forums but haven�t had much luck. I�m leaning toward the pump/rack & pinion. What do y�all think?

Gm had a issue with the steering shaft where it is connected needing to be lubed at one time the had a slight "bumping" growling noise .. there fix was remove the one bolt and pack shaft with grease and "work" the shaft till all hard spots went away

The steering shaft problem shows up when driving slow and hitting small bumps. I got a box of those shafts we have changed. Gm shows a pit#4038 They talk about the center bolt in the left motor support touching metal.

I've been leaning toward the pump but I don't want to just go swapping parts until I hit the right one.

Jack both front wheels off the ground and spin them and workem in all directions. That way you might weed out wheel bearings or hear the noise or see some slack somewhere.

Probably the steering gearbox. Always a left turn momentary, grunt/groan sound.
