PCP is spot on. Couldn't have said it better. Any half wit with a gun can kill a turkey without any restraints. Have a little self respect, and self confidence, and try to kill turkeys the right way. Call them onto the property you have permission to hunt. That takes skill, patience, and character (something real turkey hunters possess). Slipping across the line is poaching, and poaching is stealing. A poacher isn't one ounce better than the street thug that smashes in a truck window and steals your wallet. Theft is theft, and you don't do it if you have moral and ethical character.

As others have said PCP nailed it. Most of the comments about piddlin' and poaching are tongue in cheek. I know mine were.

For those who don't read here often, the folks talking about piddling are just joking around. But there are plenty of real turkey poachers around, and I've wondered what makes them do it. I can understand someone turning to crime; they want nice stuff but are too lazy to work. But what would anyone get from poaching a turkey? They can't possibly get any sense of satisfaction from it. Why do it? It's gotta come down to wanting to impress somebody, and the need to do that has to come from some sort of serious feelings of inadequacy. The poacher has to feel that he is a miserable failure at life and is trying to compensate by convincing some group that he is a great turkey hunter. So he poaches a turkey, shows it off, and tries hard to convince others that he is the mighty hunter. He doesn't fool anybody, and all understand what a pitiful person he really is. I could go on and talk about some of the inadequacies common among poachers, but I'll just let everyone use their imaginations.

Got some real candidates for the old well on here. The right way to deal with a turkey off your property is to set up 50 yards from the property line and call him across the line and shoot him. I've done this quite a few times and it is extremely satisfying to kill a turkey in this manner. I have absolutely no objection to my neighbors trying to do the same to a turkey on our land. That's the way the game is supposed to be played. If you cheat and cross the line, you are admitting to yourself that you aren't good enough to do it right. You are not a turkey hunter, you are just an ordinary criminal. Find something else to do for your jollies and stay out of the turkey woods. ^^^THIS^^^
