Didn't want to hijack the speeding thread. Does anybody know what side of the median to pull to anymore or is that bewildered look I get when I force you to pull to the right side justified?

you talking about like if you pull into the median while waiting to turn and someone else coming from the opposite direction does the same?

Yeah, most people don't know you're supposed to be on the right side...if you're having to look around the other car to check for oncoming traffic, you're doing it wrong. But most people don't understand how that works.

Don't know what you mean. I don't usually pull into a median.

They don't! My truck isn't jacked to the sky, but it is on 35s so people can't see over me then give me a dirty look. cry

I was picturing an interstate median.

That graphic shows it clearly. And some people have no clue about that or how to do it.

Sometimes I will sit there. I know it aggravates them, but I feel like somehow I'm teaching them a lesson rofl

I wish we could talk Alexander Shunnarah into implementing this into his billboards somewhere.

Definitely. But it's more fun to box in a darting tailgater who wants to try to pass so badly he's having a fit.

That example is how it should be.

Problem is that there are certain places and situations where the "right way" is less effective and need to be done differently.

Example: IF the yellow car turning left into the median has its own turn lane, then in that case, each car should stay left of the other oncoming car in the median....red car tuns in front of yellow car staying left. Otherwise it would be a complete cluster since there is a backup of turn lane vehicles for the red car to get through. Downside, large vehicles block the line of sight. It's kind of a problem no matter how you turn.

Yall need to drive in jasper one day. I hate trying to cross the hiway there. I've been cussed screamed at and few jesters for going to the right. Had one where the woman followed me because I was on the right and she stoped and blocked the left lane rather than turning in.

Are you saying in the situation where the turn lane goes all the way through the media? I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about your run of the mill medians like in the picture. That's 90% of the medians where I live. I believe I know what you're talking about though.

That is fun. I'll admit I get a lot of fun out of being bigger than most on the road. As most guys do who drive a truck. The basic stuff like this just irk me to no end

Lots of them around here.

Even the simple median cut through you talk about....there might be 5-8 cars trying to turn, so the whole keep to the right thing doesn't work out well. On your pictue, imagine 4-5 cars behind the red car and also behind the yellow car, each wanting to turn left...no turn lane, but just like you have there.

What works best then? I say keeping to the left works better than doing it the "right way". Sometimes, it better to deal with poor visibility and stay to the left...especially at a busy area where lots of turns through the median are happening in both directions. Not the official right way, but works in limited instances. Trouble is, it is up to each driver to figure it out and most drivers are dumb as a box of hammers it seems. grin

Haha yes they are! I live in Cherokee Ridge in Union Grove and the turn off for the main road if you're headed toward Huntsville is a thin median. Too thin to pull into so you have to stay back at the end of the turning lane. My thinking on that is (as well as the example you had) is the proper way is to stay back at the end of the turning lane until it's your turn. Then pull to the right side. That's the way I learned anyway.

Stay back? Wait your turn? Are you serious, Clark? Ain't nobody got time for that grin
