Does anyone actually know why they don't allow Sunday hunting? Been curious about this for years.

Just be glad you can hunt on Tuesday and Thursday.

Just be glad you can hunt on Tuesday and Thursday. What do you mean by that? Did it not use to allow that also?

National Forest lands used to not allow hunting on Tuesday and Thursday. I think there was a rule about hunting on Sunday you had to be a mile from a curch or something similar.

There is still no shooting within a 1/4 mile from a church on Sunday. I know it says so on some WMA regs anyway.

Sunday hunting was banned by my parents when I was young............ Most Sunday laws came from this Hebrews 10:25 (KJV) 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. The churches normal assembly has been the first day of the week (Sunday) since it started. God doesn't want people missing church especially for pleasure and many laws reflected this for years in our nation. I'm not saying that is the for sure reason it started on Wheeler but many of the blue laws and other Sunday laws were designed for biblical reasons.

I agree with that and that is why I don't hunt or fish on Sunday. I try to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Taking a good long look inside myself, I realize I have a habit of getting pretty caught up in deer hunting especially because I love it so much. Because it only lasts a little while each year, I probably spend more time at it than I should. I try to lay all this aside for one day each week and worship the Lord and relax. I'll not judge anyone for how they spend any day, but for me it is best to give the Lord my Sundays, makes it that much easier to try to live my life the way he'd have me to those other six days.

I don't know for sure, it might be due to the biblical reasons mentioned, but for some reason I always thought it was because it was "public" property, and they felt the need to give the hikers, bikers, bird watchers, etc., their time also. Most of that refuge is flat with good "walking roads" which are great for family hikes and such... so the hunters get it on Mon thru Sat, and the non-hunters get it on Sunday.
