My thoughts exactly.... I've bow hunted public land out there 3 years. We've put arrows in deer from 135" -150". I think you can kill some bigger deer for sure but a mature 140" 8 point is a dang fine deer anywhere in the country. Me personally, I wouldn't be passing him. Especially if your only able to hunt for a limited period of time. My expectations would probably be a little different on private ground but on a 1 week trip like we typically take, if I see a mature buck that fires me up, I'm going to shoot him. My goals may change when I've killed a whole house full of 140" deer but until then, I'm going to shoot mature bucks that get me excited.

I guess my "concern" was none of us saw a 150 plus (unless we really were all underestimating the score), but saw plenty of mature bucks. So either the 650 acres didn't have a huge deer on it at the time or the really big one/ ones just didn't happen to get up during the day on the 5 days we hunted. I'm not sure of the exact time you were there, but maybe I missed it in the thread somewhere. I was there from 11/13 to 11/22 and I'm going to say that there's a really good chance the big ones were just not moving on the place you were at. The lease I'm involved in has been really good to us in the past and I didn't see a shooter until 11/20. On a normal year 3 out of 5 guys will be tagged out by the 3rd or 4th day of hunting. Granted some of those probably should've held out, but hey, it's there tag so be it. This year we had one guy kill, one guy wound one, and one guy miss. The miss wasn't a huge deer, but would've been a good one for the guy that missed. The wounded one was a mature deer, just not much of a rack. The one that was killed was a great deer. Overall I'd rate our time out there at a 3 out of 10 compared to years past as far as mature deer being seen. Lots of Milo was still standing around us coupled with extremely high temperatures for that week. I wouldn't give up on the place you went. Next year may be the hunt of your life on that same farm.

This ^^^^
Don't rate it on one years hunt. I've hunted the Midwest for many years and it can change drastically from year to year on any farm.
It has happened to me on same farm back to back years.
Two or three bad years in a row and I would start looking though.
