Saw the first couple fawns this past weekend up at the property. Looked to be about a week old or maybe a little younger. Back dating gestation that would be a first week of Jan. breeding/conception date. This property is south zone Wilcox Cty.

How does that align with the conception/fetal study map for your area?

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

I just got a picture today from my game camera of a fawn. First fawn I've gotten so far this year.

The 1995 to 2015 shows 2 survey sites in Wilcox County and lists conception dates for both as Feb 1 - Feb 15. I'm just a little south of both survey sites which would make them off by almost exactly 30 days. Seeing one pair of very young fawns doesnt necessarily mean much statistically as she could have been early to come into heat with the majority of the herd cycling 28 days later. That said, this one was most definitely bred before Feb. I start hunting hard right after Christmas and have historically killed my biggest deer between Jan 1 and Jan 10th. They were chasing hard in late Jan early Feb last year too. Alabama has what I call a trickle rut. Our bucks will start walking around Christmas and I've seen them still actively working scrapes and running does while listening for turkeys in early to mid March.

I haven't seen any fawns yet. I cut a lot of bedding area over the past few days but didn't see any. The area needed to be cut for future plots and ideas so I cut it anyway. Last year I saw a load of them at this time.

It be's that way sometimes.
