I don't post in the food forum often, but this grilled cheese was too good not to share. I got the idea for it off the Intraweb, so y'all know it's good! grin Anyway, to make it do like you normally would and butter the bread on the outside (I use olive oil on the outside). Once you got the frying pan ready (I use a George Foreman-type grill), put shredded cheddar cheese directly on the pan/grill. Put the sandwich down on top of that shredded cheese, and then put more shredded cheese on the top side (if you're cooking with a George Foreman). If using a frying pan, just leave the sandwich on the shredded cheese for a while, then when you flip it put more shredded cheese down so you'll have it on both sides of the sandwich.

The goal here is to have a grilled cheese that is crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. I'm here to tell you that this thing is dang good! thumbup If you try it you'll never want one he old way again....

Any tips on how to get your wife to scrub the burnt cheese off the pan without any deduction of 'points'.

Before I put the grated cheese on the grilling surface i sprayed it down with Pam non-stick cooking spray. When the grilled cheese was ready to come off I slowly separated it from the cooking surface with a spatula, and (going slowly with spatula) it didn't stick at all.

When I was in highschool, I briefly worked at a sandwhich shop. we had one called the "grownup grilled cheese". it was basically a regular grilled cheese with a chitload of bacon in the middle. It was amazing.

I made these this weekend with tomato soup. Sliced american cheese inside and shredded sharp cheddar on the outside. Very good! Thanks, CR.

I may try this but the thought of cheese stuck to the pan is scary indeed

I sprayed a non-stick skillet with a little PAM and had no issues with it sticking.
