Once in GA I walked up on a large kingsnake stalking a big timber rattler.
Once in GA I came up on a big blacksnake swallowing a squirrel he'd just killed.
.
Speaking of kings, last year I was slipping around the edge of a field right at day light trying to get setup on a roosted gobbler. As I was slipping along I noticed a small tree branch move to my right (I was slipping in the shadows of the overhanging branches). I look straight above me and about 4 ft king snake is perched on a limb about a foot above my head. Scared the ever loving crap out of me! I quickly back peddled a few feet and went on around him.
We are not perfect, only forgiven!!!

I'm with you Calhoun . I have kept journals of my turkey hunting all my life. It's enjoyable to look back at what happened and WHEN it happened, I record when I hear the first whipperwill, when the dogwoods bloom, the first hummingbird I see and of course greenup. Hopefully the journals will be a comfort to me in my old age...if I can still read.

Me and a buddy busted a flock of fall hend once and called 2 of them back in gobbling their heads off.
The same buddy and I laid on a mall dirt pile 2 years ago as a 3 year old gobbler strutted no more than 5 ft. From us. You could see his eyes blink and the blood enter and leave his neck and head as he changed colors. His wings were popping gravel and the drum was so deafening loud.we could honestly smell him he was so close. It was a breathtaking experience, and he finally strutted off to the side and we doubled on 2 of the 6 more that was strutting at 15 yards

My cousin and I was on a bird one morning when I noticed him moving and twitching about. I remember thinking what in the world is he doing with the Tom just over the ridge. All of the sudden he jumps up and starts coming out of his turkey vest.At the same time he's trying to reach in the back of it. He finally got rid of the vest and the culprit in the back. Luckily he grabbed the 2 foot copperhead by the tail and threw it out down through the woods like a whirly bird. I still laugh at this when I think about it.

I love it when the Barred Owls come to your calls better than the Toms.....NOT! But it is pretty cool to see them when they land above you and try to figure out where Sexy Hooter is!
