What the heck is the CAB doing??? Lowering turkey limits, and extending deer season until Feb 10 for everybody with apparently with no biological reason. I just don't see how either of these proposals are in the best interest of the turkeys or the deer. For those who don't visit the turkey forum this has been discussed but this was the first I had heard about a proposed deer season change. "One thing ADCNR asked the CAB to ponder is whether to extend the Alabama deer season to Feb. 10 for the entire state. In previous seasons, the North Zone season ran through Jan. 31 while the South Zone season ran through Feb. 10. Dr. Strickland told AON that the biological data gathered by WFF biologists over the past five years show that about 15 percent of the North Zone has a rut that extends into February. My personal stance is that if the data is there to support it, and it will increase the experience of hunters in the North Zone, I would support that, Dr. Strickland said. It should also be noted that in a Nov. 19, 2016 to Feb. 10, 2017 deer hunting firearms season that ADCNR recommended for Alabama, there is no longer a 10-day blackout period in December. The season would run straight through." Full article here

Love it on the deer season. Have a self-imposed 3 turkey limit, so no sweat there. Our deer were going nuts this year during the first week of February.

So the original logic was that the south rut runs longer so it was extended. Now the proposal is to do the same for the north. So now they want to make it all the same again which totally defeats the original idea that the rut runs longer in the south. Ahhhhh fubr!!!!

They should bump it to 10 does a day while their at it.

And everybody starts the same date with no closed dates in December - so nobody loses, right?

I don't care what they do with the deer season really. Personally I would like the February season as our rut is still going on then, but don't care either way. Just leave the damn turkeys alone!

I will be glad to have the beginning of dec back. That was some of our best hunting days. We killed way more deer at the beginning of dec before they change it than we did in the 10 days in feb.

Turkeys should have been named as the national bird and all hunting should be closed on them anyway..........

Goodness, this State has turned into a blue collar comedy tour skit, hence the stereotype most people have of Alabama. Why don't they just open deer season year round with no limits, and allow night hunting. No more private property, it's all open to whoever steps on it.
Just like I said in another post, the DCNR is '' selling '' deer hunting, not conserving S_____T, with their blanket regulations.
We absolutely have a brigade of morons making decisions.
