Anyone else like to fish for crappie on the banks and tree tops using a 12-14' jig pole? My favorite set-up is a Wally Marshall 14' crappie pole with a crappie reel and a Slater Jig fishing the banks, tree tops and submerged drop-offs. Farm Hunter,Glad to see another crappie fisherman here.Love that crappie fishing,wanting to learn how to fish with all the rods out front of the bow,think its called spider rigging or something like that.Been wanting to go go since the first of the month.Where did you get the rod and reel setup,Bass Pro?Trying to save a couple of bucks and checking out ebay alot for at least a pair of that same rig,want to get me an onboard charger too so I'm having to watch my pennies.

A drift sock was one of the best crappie fishing tools I ever added to my eequipment. It's home-made with #4 copper wire around the opening so I can change the size of the opening depending on wind speed and regulate my drifting.

I love Crappie fishing, but even more so I love eating them. In my opinion, they are the best tasting fish in Alabama waters.
Yes, I got my Wally Marshall set-up at Bass Pro but Uncle Bucks makes great jig poles and crappie reels. Some Wal-Marts carry these.
Vertical jigging the banks for crappie is so much fun and I can't wait 'til my kids are old enough for me to teach them.
I haven't run across too many guys that crappie fish using long jig poles. Most use light spinning set-ups or use minnows. I like those methods too, but it is more exciting fishing the banks and tree tops with a jig pole.

We used to fish Ross Barnett every spring break in high school. I always took my fly rod to fish there. Basically, I used it like a jig pole to catch them.

William, I thought of using a fly rod for a jig pole,does it work out fine or do you catch yourself wanting a sure enough true jig pole sometimes.I have alot of fly rods as me and my oldest son buy alot of old fly reels to keep and some for parts to repair others to sell,you can't get a fly reel now made as good as some of the older ones are made.
