What amazes me is the people that see zero deer, complain that they don't have deer, but will then shoot the first 60 lbs doe they see just to get one under their belt. You can't have it both ways. If you aren't seeing anything and think you have no deer, the best way NOT to kill them out even worse is don't shoot them. Period.

bigt, when I GW'd in south Alabama landowners that didn't shoot does IN season didn't get depredation permits OUT of season.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Unless you have cooperation among small acreage landowners your goals are always going to be different. Seeing a farmer with only 200 acres trying to plant crops surrounded by 3000 acres of non-farmers, well we know what is going to happen. The deer eat food, so there is no guessing where the deer are going to end up to eat. If you can't allow deer hunting on that 200 acres don't plant food for the deer and say you are farming for a living. You are just not smart enough to be making a living farming if you think the animals are not going to feed on your buffet! Better get a high fence to keep those deer out!

Well that explains it. Yep I guess I'm seeing ghosts in my corn field everyday.

You ever stuck a camera over a feeder? If not, have you ever seen all the pics from someone who has? Notice when 90% of the pictures are taken. That's all the guy's saying. I think there's some merit to this statement.

I've read this entire thread and I'm still not sure what we arguing about here.?>? I would think that if farmers are having to kill deer because of crop pressure, then there must be a whole lot of deer in the area which means that there must not be any shortage of deer in the area, so why the complaint about there not being any deer????

Not necessarily. Low numbers and getting lower by the year. Coyotes are horrible and we are due for an EHD outbreak around the area I live. Game and fish is simply not in touch with what is really happening around this area. All they seem to want to worry about is planting food for waterfowl that never show up in any numbers to amount to anything and checking old black women for their limit of carp.

Honestly I know nobody will agree with me but this is a thaught of why we aren't seeing as many deer in daylight. A deer will pattern hunters very quickly and become nuckturnal. They will have areas that nobody ever steps foot in and will stay there until they know hunters are not present. Back when people hunted with dogs they made deer move more during daylight and the dogs nose took them to these areas that hunters wouldn't normally set foot in therefore making deer that would never be seen in daylight move. So I think the more corn we feed and less intrusion we have could actually be contributing to the reasons we aren't seeing the deer. I know there are not as many deer as there were before the liberal does harvests but there are still alot of deer that we aren't seeing during daylight.

Ain't that the truth. How about not spending another three years figuring it out and start restocking efforts now.

I killed my last doe in 2003 or 04. Am I doing my part to increase the doe population?

The reason we don't see as many deer in daylight is because they all (bucks & does) are being hunted HARD from Oct 15-Feb 10. If a animal is hunted it usually won't move much when it thinks your around. Go back to doe days and we will at least start seeing a lot more does again. I personally have not killed a doe since about 1998 and never plan to again, but if I take my daughter she is welcome to take one or two if given the opportunity.

I agree with you, but my camera runs 24/7. There aren't as many deer.

How could the turkeys be gone ? They have 3-5 times as many chicks as a doe does fawns. How many does can you kill ? How many hen turkeys can you kill ? DNR needs to start restocking deer !

You cant kill no hens. Thats a good point , but hens out do gobblers atleast 15 to 1 ,and you can only kill 5 gobblers. dont get me wrong I love turkey hunting.but it is said the turkey populations are down near 30 percent across the whole southeast.thats bullcrap.I see atleast 10 turkeys every sit and at different stands and on different land. But they say the deer populations are still holding strong based on spotlighting I dont think so.I do understand there are some propertys with alot of deer.but most of them are near the rivers or on large tracts of aragiculture land.I have one 50 acre tract of land near clanton.but I can only hunt 30 acres of it because the big feild has 3 houses near it.it was planted in soybeans this summer.I park my tahoe in the front feild.every evening after hunting I have to walk back across that feild after hunting ,it aint nothing to count 40 deer out there.but the deer has a powerline comeing out of clanton headed right to the big feild .thats the way the deer enter the feild.I thought throughimg out some moth balls to change their rought.

Turkeys have probably 20 times the predators too, along with eggs that have to lay on the ground for an extended period of time. Anything that crawls or walks will eat them. I wish SOME people would learn to not shoot does when there is hardly any sign of a deer in their area too, but comparing fawns to poults is just ignorant.

You are a true QDMA hunter and you are doing your part in helping the buck population increase too.
