Hayrides ain't allowed in the ghetto ....I literally work less than a mile from legion field and it is the worst neighborhood in bham. They up the police presence to curb the prostitution. I also seen the city planting flowers on the center st side trying to make it look presentable. ...but chit is still chit no matter what you put on it

I never experienced any problems when I covered games at Legion Field for the paper, and even parked in Shady's lot a time or two. But coming out after the game at night, late, to empty parking areas, walking to my vehicle ... damn sure had my head on a swivel.
Birmingham SHOULD build a new stadium somewhere downtown for UAB, the bowl game and other events - concerts, soccer and whatnot. It's past time for Legion Field to go away. They probably could cut up pieces of it to sell to fans, sell the seats, etc., and have some kind of nice historical thing at the new stadium. Probably could get the state football championships there, too, on some kind of rotation with Auburn and Tuscaloosa.
Doubt it would happen, though. It should.

UAB is pushing hard for a new stadium at the BJCC. They have agreed to a long term lease with the BJCC. Looks like it might actually happen. Suppose to be 55,000 seat.

I know they're trying to make that area an entertainment district convenient to the BJCC. Maybe a stadium, buying-clearing-developing land around it, etc., would turn things around.

I remember last time i went to b'ham. we stopped at a gas station to buy some snacks for that night and they had a place to get food beside it. The food store sold BBQ, chinese, mexican, sandwhiches and all kinds of food. The gas station had everything you could think of too, teny shoes, scratch off,cell phones. Funny thing was the middle eastern man behind the plexiglass said" you aint from around here are you, I said, naw, why you say that. Said he was just wondering.Realized in bham, if you dont know any better, you can quickly get in the wrong part of town.
