Got here early been in the tree an hour. Can see the pad I parked my truck at has gotten real popular. Think I will sit here till midnight and make sure it is safe to leave.

They issued just shy of 500 permits.
A two yr old 8 point and 4 yr old 10 have been brought in. 10 was a stud. Chasing does.

Bankhead has some great deer on it but also has some huge deer deserts in it. Congrats to all that have taken a buck because no matter the size its a trophy out there. I've never have understood the population being so low for the type of terrain and area. I have hunted a few national forests and Bankhead is by far the hardest to see deer.

Black Warrior Skunked me this weekend. I camped at Brushy Lake, and it was a fun weekend. Still disappointing not seeing a deer. Oh well, I got drawn to hunt the quota hunt at Panther Creek NWR in Mississippi next weekend. Maybe it will pan out!

Saw 6 does and a coyote this AM. I've been scouting and bow hunting but haven't seen fresh rut sign. I see rub lines from last year but no fresh rubs. From the sounds of it (or lack of gun shot sounds) it doesn't seem like they have kicked off yet.
