One thing I can add to this is that the last hour to hour and a half of daylight in the afternoon I stand the whole time. A lot less movement just reaching for your bow than having to stand up and turn around. Another thing is I try to keep the tree between me and where the deer are coming from. Sometimes you have to shoot around the tree but it has helped me be able to hug up against it and use the tree as something to hide behind.

Here is what I would do.
Option A.) sit 5yds in the woods at the tip of the red arrow, or further down field on that tree line. and find an appropriate tree.
Option B. Move 50 plus yds off the field in the direction they are coming from and be slightly perpendicular to their trail.
This is all assuming the deer are consistent using the same route to enter the field.
If I was just trying to kill a doe, I'd sit around the tip of the red arrow, and find a tree where you can shoot that entire end of the field and still have good background cover, or be able to get high.

I didn't read through all the replies, but what it sounds like is she "sky lined" you. You CAN climb a limbless tree and be stuck out like a sore thumb and get away with it.....As long as you have a good backdrop. If the deer was looking up and sees a blob on the side of the tree with nothing but sky behind you, you're busted 9 out of 10 times. If you have trees behind you, you can get away with being stuck out some.
My answer is choose a different tree if that is what happened. But in your situation I would've remained still until she moved off or turned her head.

Pretty close to what I would have recommended too. Assuming that the majority of the deer are entering where you said they are I would definitely NOT sit in the woods 20 yards from the edge of the plot. Me, I'd back up to 50 yards or so like I said in my first reply or I'd hang a stand in that corner under the red arrow.

I climb mostly trees without good cover and rarely get busted. I try to stand as soon as I think something is coming. Also, if you stay standing then you may get tired of standing which can cause you to move more. Never had a problem with staring and blinking a lot. To me it helps because you need to watch their demeanor and be able to see their movements. Lastly, because I climb trees with little cover the skyline situation is critical.

One thing I have learned to do over the years is to not stare at a deer. That is one of my big things now, I think they have a sixth sense about that and I'll not stare at one, just put my head down and listen for them to start walking and try and judge their mood my their footsteps. You all may think I'm crazy, but I've had many a deer peg me and not many have ever bolted when I do as I stated above. Quit staring at them. This. I think it kicks in their predator vs prey instinct. I don't stare at them. I look away and keep them in my peripheral vision. You just have to wait those old does out. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.

Can't change the past, but moving forward definitely don't climb the same tree. Even if it had been a "perfect" tree, once an old doe spots you in one she'll be looking again next time.
Others have given good advice. Personally, I've had better luck staying perfectly still and waiting them out. As long as they don't smell you, most of the time if you don't move they'll settle down enough to turn and allow you to draw.
