The one thing I caution is that poachers are true a*holes. If you make it so they can't get in the stand they will destroy that stand. Seen it happen twice. They have a complex where they think they have the right to do whatever they want.

Hide camera, ID poacher, make an arrest. I agree with this ^^^^. But it would be fun to hide car battery on backside of tree and connect to stand.

Rip a sheet of plywood in half on one side sandwich a 24 between the 2 and screw it off. Cut a hole in the open side. Slide it over the ladder and chain it off. They will have to figure out how to scale an 8ft tall piece of plywood to get to the first step.
This is what I have seen on many construction sites and was going to suggest. The only thing I'd add is paint a message on the front saying something like, "Smile, you're on camera. The GW had been notified of your poaching and I WILL be prosecuting you."

Battery powered motion detector with an siren. Aim it where the seat is, so it goes off when he gets to the top.

Get some mesh the width of the ladder and long enough to cover 3 steps. Padlock it to the steps.
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Put a manikin in the stand while you arent there with orange vest. Or now that it is Halloween, one of those motion activated gobblins would likely scare the shucks out of someone climbing up in there in the dark.

A real good looking rubber snake would scare the crap out of someone not expecting it and you'd at least get a good laugh out of knowing it was there. Or get a good leg hold trap. The one thing I caution is that poachers are true a*holes. If you make it so they can't get in the stand they will destroy that stand. Seen it happen twice. They have a complex where they think they have the right to do whatever they want. I agree if you just block them off they will tear it down.

Put a bank teller dye pack rigged to a trip wire on the ladder. Everyone would know he did something wrong for a few weeks.

Does anybody know of a device that is made to block people ( local aaahole yahoos) from trying to poach deer from my ladders when I am not around? Think Vietnam war; PAVN; VC. You'll get some good ideas.

A realistic fake snake on the platform would be a nice touch.

Wait, so you guys who say taking a poacher's stand is "lowering yourself to his level" ... you will leave a trespasser's and/or poacher's property he ILLEGALLY brought on YOUR property because it's not yours?

Or now that it is Halloween, one of those motion activated gobblins would likely scare the shucks out of someone climbing up in there in the dark. Unfortunately, when he fell 16 feet and snapped his neck his family would sue you for wrongful death. "He was a good poacher, never hurt no one. Loved his whiskey and gran'kids and 13 dogs. Didn't deserve to be scairt and die ILLEGALLY HUNTING on SOMEONE ELSE'S LAND like that. Pay us."

Took a stand before and will do it again. Man enough to trespass, man enough to call me to ask for it back. But nobody ever has.

I deal with this every year and this is what I tell folks. If you take the stand you are now in possession of property you know is not yours, regardless of whether or not it was on your property. Poacher calls the Sheriff, lies and says so and so stole my treestand, game cam, and climbing sticks off my property and I want him prosecuted! So the sheriff rolls up and sure enough you have his stand. Now you're in a pickle because it would appear that you are a thief and who knows... with the world today you might be charged. So my best advice is: If you find a stand leave it there and let the game warden at least have a chance at catching them. Notice: Results may vary...
