What I'm looking for is probably impossible to find I know. But I figured I'd take a shot anyway.

I'm looking for a club that is not a Westervelt club, that has at least 30-40% hardwoods, is within an hour of Tuscaloosa, and the dues are $1500 or less. I bowhunt almost exclusively and have been hunting public land recently but have young children that are now old enough to hunt and need a place with shooting houses over green fields to take them.

What I'm describing existed abundantly 20 years ago but I'm starting to believe it may not anymore. Please let me know if anyone knows of a place like I have described. Thanks.

Never have dealt with them, but why do you specify not a Westervelt club? Must really to tough to deal with?

Generally speaking, Westervelt lands don't have a lot of hardwoods on them... just SMZ's left by logging crews. If someone really enjoys hunting hardwoods, a WV lease is not usually ideal.

Westervelt properties have a bad name for several folks around here. I have hunted their lands before, but only as a guest. I did have to hunt pines because that was all they had remaining. I know their is a huge benefit of feed available on cut tracts, but I am one who loves the mature hardwood creek bottoms.

Never had any dealing with Westervelt myself, so I just replied what I have been told.

Not just them. Most of all the timber companies cut as close to the water as they can. Hard to find the kind of property we used to enjoy in the 80's. Good luck

Yeah, I agree with this and what others have said here. Most of the enjoyment I get from hunting is the beautiful scenery of the autumn woods. A pine plantation doesn't provide that for me like a mature hardwood forest does. I grew up hunting as a kid in the late '70's and '80's when I had access to a lot of pretty hardwoods. Nowadays most of those areas are cutover, pines or locked up by private clubs that charge outrageous fees. It doesn't keep me from searching in vain for those beautiful forests of my youth.

And Westervelt is not a bad organization. I've been in several Westervelt clubs with good people and have leased some land myself from them. It just seems that every time I do, the only nice hardwood section that they had is cut the first year I join.
