I killed a 3 1/2' rattler three years ago in mid January.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I hunt a swampy area that feeds into a big creek so yes I have. I never go deer hunting without looking out for water moccasins all season.

Only once. Me and a buddy were bow hunting when we were kids (17 years old). It was 70 degrees that morning but a storm came through mid day and the temps plummeted into the 20's by mid afternoon. We were walking down a logging road and came across a large rattlesnake. It looked like it was dead but I guess the cold just had it real slow. We caught that thing and put it in one of those yellow 5 gallon buckets that hydraulic fluid comes in. Man after about 20 minutes in that bucket that sucker came alive and was striking at everything that moved and rattling. We didn't know how to get the sucker out of the bucket without getting bit so we duct taped a shop vac hose to the pour spout of the bucket and then to the exhaust pipe on my truck. Didn't take long to kill that joker stone dead. I dumped it out of the bucket and we skinned it out. Turned out to be a female and she had a clear sack of fluid on her belly slam full of baby rattlesnakes. They looked lile little white worms.

Several years ago there was a very mild winter and I remember seeing a water moccasin on several occasions in a particular area on our lease in January. He was moving awful slow but still out moving.
