My brother served in Vietnam and was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. He rescued Navy pilots when they got shot down.
He has never liked any kind of sports other than NASCAR.
He's still tough as nails!

How do we deal with this moral and cultural failing? Where did we go wrong? Personally I blame the throw, mow and grow cult.

Football is okay, but way over-rated here in the South (more of an idol here). Gravy is great, but it will kill you eventually.
As long as he keeps his priorities in order - God, Others, Himself (which includes education), Family and Country - he should be fine.

He could have chosen Tooktocaugee or Possum Trot or Axis or Hulaco or Ball Play, well maybe not Ball Play, but any other number of place names.
