Anybody else watching the pbs documentry on the fall of South Vietnam? Seems to me like a foreshadowing of what we're seeing now in the middle east with Isis.

I watched some of it while doing things around the house. Its a wild story. The part where the feller took off his flight suit while hovering the chinook then jumped out was wild.

I just watched that. Both amazing and depressing. I thought about how blessed we are in our country ... and how we may stand on the brink of losing what we have.

Thank you for your service deerman. I can't imagine the hell y'all went through. I remember when I was a kid and my cousin coming home after serving his third tour and how much of a changed person he was then and now . At 65 today he is still trying to overcome it.

My brother-in-law was a Army information soldier with a small group of Montagnards on the Ho Chi Minh trail for two tours, in other words catch one of the NVA and see what he knows. He said the Montagnards were the most fearless fighting soldiers he ever saw, and after the US withdrew the NVA slaughtered them. That part bothers him still.

Rifle, helmet, parachute, scarf and flag from Cambodia in 1970, pistol and knife from a local vet.

They were interviewing the first ever US General born in Vietnam on NPR this morning. It was very moving. The guy got out of Vietnam in the last days before Saigon fell. He was only 9 years old. His dad was a Major in the Vietnamese army. When they finally got out and were sitting on the deck of the US aircraft carrier, he vowed right then that he was going to serve his new country in the US military.

He has done well. If every immigrant [and most native born Americans] felt about the United States the way this guy does we would have few problems...
