If batter swings and ball hits his arm and it goes fair into the out field what's call? Dead ball strike? Hit batter to first base? Live ball hit? 12u baseball. He was not attempting to get out of the way. He was swinging and ball hit his hand and not the bat. ??

Hand is considered part of the bat. Ball is in play.

Live ball. But with kids if they are hurt they may call time. My son blew out a few fingers like that last year. Ump called time with ball still in the air. Said he heard his fingers crunch.

According to this it is a strike. The hands and arms are not considered part of the bat. http://www.qcbaseball.com/rules/hit-by-pitch.aspx

It's a dead ball strike. If the ball hits any part of the batters body parts while he is swinging it is a strike. If the ball hits the bat first then this body part it is a dead ball foul. At no time will it be considered a live ball.

Tonight they have the batter first base when I told them it was a strike. Another website with same rule. http://www.baseball-rules.com/d3think.htm

Dead ball strike. Hands and arms are not part of the bat but the player has to maintain control of the bat. If the batter makes a swinging motion while trying to elude a pitch it's still a strike. What you describe is more like the ruling if a batted ball hits a player while still in the batters box it's a dead ball. Some of these are very hard to call from behind the plate though.

Yeah u ain't kidding..We had a big dayum argument at my son's game this evening..The league has a rule where if on the 3rd strike the player can run to 1st base if the catcher drops the ball..The player was just fixing to walk in the dugout & the coach told him to hurry up & get on 1st blah bullshit!. When I played & struck out I was out! I didn't cry & whine I tried harder..

Even in the younger age groups in travel ball (USSSA) they play by big league rules.

This is 10 year olds..The problem was he swung & the ump called him out, and the boy was just about step foot in the dug out..He was well out of the base line the player should've been out imo and everyone else's not the other teams of course lol..In MLB 1st has to be unoccupied & 2 outs I believe?

It's a dead ball strike. No runners may advance. The hand is NOT part of the bat. Parents have heard that myth most of their lives and just assume that it's true. I ended a college game at South Alabama with that same play 4 years ago. I thought the fans were going to have a stroke.

On a drop third strike if the players makes a move to the dugout and does not attempt to advance to first base then they are considered out.

First base has to be unoccupied, but, it doesn't matter how many outs there are. It is also still a strike out with an error.

If there are 2 outs, it doesn't matter if first base is occupied or not on a dropped 3rd strike. He can run...
