So I'm leaving my fiancďż˝'s house and on my way home I drove by a field that I hunt. Got out my binocs I keep in the jeep and Saw a beast of a jake, 8 inch beard most likely so I pull over in the field. He is prolly 700 yards away so I take off my cowboy boots put on some rubber ones I keep in there and loaded the mossy 500 20 gauge. I always keep it in there during the last few turkey seasons I've hunted. I sneak through the woods edge of the field till I'm about 80-100 yards from the jake. I started calling and he looks up and around and heads to the woods. I was like I guess I screwed this up some how. So I move 20 yards up and set up in some reaaalllll thick briars, and yes I got scratched up good. Before I can call I hear a gobble and see a big red head strutting my way. Stayed very still as he circled around and he got about 30 yards away and I actually made a doe bleat for some reason and he let his feathers down and poked his head up, boom, he goes down, I run up and he is fighting. I was finally able to step on his head and claim my 3rd gobbler in 3 seasons and totaling a number of 13 turkey hunts over the 3 seasons. I'm getting more and more into it. I called my friend to come take some pics.....And yes I killed him in jeans, I'm just lucky I had a camo jacket in the jeep, skeeters were bad too without a netted mask for the few minutes the hunt lasted. 10 And a quarter beard Both Spurs just barley over 1 1/8ths Weighed 18.11 lbs

Congrats man, sometimes that's just how easy it can be. On a side note, someone probably needs to put a suicide watch on ole gomerpyle now.

Thanks, it's my second gobbler this season. 1 gobbler of my first season, a jake last year and two gobblers this year! It's been awesome. My families land has tons of deer but not a lot of turkey. They moved in after they put in a giant resivior 4 years ago and after that they just slowly started showing up. So I started trying turkey hunting and I'm really having a blast with it. Still aren't many turkey so it feels really good to get one. My first gobbler this season, I killed at the land I live on a few mins away.

On a side note, someone probably needs to put a suicide watch on ole gomerpyle now. I laughed The law of averages will eventually bring some good fortune to gomer.

Congrats on the great bird. I don't think you screwed up on the jake. There's a good chance that he could have seen that big boy before you did. And a jake that big is going to be a gooden to be chasing next year.
