I just got an email from Cabela's informing all shooting enthusiasts about a proposed ammo ban being sought by ATF for 5.56mm/.223 caliber ammo. Check it out. They are taking public comment through March 16th. This is for steel-core ball ammo. Def a HUGE concern. Ban this and next thing they want is hollow-points and ballistic tips. THey will never be happy. Me as a legal law abiding gun owner may need some of this ammo in the event that I get in a shoot out like the California Bank robbery years ago. Guys had armor on. Whose willing to say that may never happen again? The problem is not with us guys but the dang criminals. Just like every other ban they think evil is just going to go away. WRONG. There will always be evil in this world all this is doing is hindering the law abiding citizens. Email sent and plan on sending some more today.

We were discussing this on my patio a few months ago. Our conversation had moved to this from the original topic of would the government ever attempt to disarm civilians. He said that if they do ban them (guns or bullets) the criminals will still find ways to get them. So the best solution is to be more effective at incarcerating people who commit crimes with a weapon. He was in favor of life in prison without parole for someone who commits a crime with a weapon. Make the penalty so severe everyone would consider that before using a weapon. If I was going against a criminal who I knew had body armor on, I would try for a thigh shot. Almost any shot will make the criminal stop and go to the ground. Then you have the opportunity to shoot them in the head or another thigh shot. A shot into the femoral artery and the guy is dead in minutes. Might not be as fast as a heart\lung shot but dead in still dead. As hunters we consistently are capable of hitting a deer in a 4" area above the shoulder. So hitting a thigh or head is not out of the question.

This country is all F'ed up. Stronger punishment is in need for the criminals. We should go back to the day of hangings, screw life in prison I don't want to pay for someone to live the rest of there life out because they broke the law. We do enough of that with people that are to lazy to work. But if this law does pass this country is screwed because it will not end with just this ammo. Next your looking at handgun ammo then the rest will fall. Heck why Not Bows, Knives, could walk into a walmart and probably hit 5-6 people before they knew shots were fired. Were would it end? 100 years from now this country is gonna be a bunch of 30 year old virgins walking around singing I'm an Oscar Meyer wiener.
