I don't own a 9mm anymore but I wouldn't feel undergunned with one, at all. I find it odd that many people who would laugh at the magnum rifle shooting deer hunters and say it's all about shot placement would think differently when it comes to hand gun. I know deer and humans are very different but a quick , clean kill would be the objective in both scenarios and neither is walking away from a shot in the vitals with a 9mm or a 45. My bigger concern than caliber is how accurate can I be with whatever weapon I choose.

At one point Gramins heard a doctor exclaim, We may as well stop. Every bag of blood we give him ends up on the floor. This guys like Swiss cheese. Whyd that cop have to shoot him so many times! Another example of someone who doesn't understand the situation or circumstances. A seemingly intelligent individual at that. Maybe it was just the "doctor" in him speaking because he was trying to save him.

I bought a 9mm because the ammo was the cheapest. I can get a box of 50 rounds for $11.99 retail. I don't like to feel bad every time I pull the trigger and it's not everyday I'm shooting people so I didn't really care about the ballistics of it. I wouldn't want to get shot with anything to be honest. I also like less recoil and faster bullets.

People that don't think a 9mm is adequate just have to make up for piss poor shooting abilities. It's a Napoleonic disease...
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

I've carried a 9 mm S&W most my life so I never knew they went away.

I don't have a dog in the fight ....I carry a 22 Me too. I carry a 380. But it fits in my pocket and is super convenient and easy to conceal. If I can't defend myself with 6 rounds, I have a bigger problem than I can solve with a gun. I like my other guns for shooting at the range, for home defense, and to keep in my vehicle.

Interesting comments in this one recommending FMJ for .380 auto to take advantage of the penetration, outweighing the poorer performance of hollow points in his caliber.

The reason LEO agencies are going back to (or allowing the choice of) 9mm is because a lot of folks "can't handle the recoil" of .40, they wind up flinching with every round and fail to qualify. The fact of the matter is agency heads are often less concerned with bullet performance as they are officer qualification. Sure, there have been improvements made to the round but as has been pointed out before advances in bullet technology aren't confined to one caliber.
With that said anyone who thinks they'll shoot in the 10 ring in a deadly force encounter is probably overestimating their cool. Survival stress is real and does incredible things to human beings, including ruining the sort of fine motor control that great handgun shooting requires. Studies indicate that most deadly force encounters happen within 15ft and usually closer with both combatants moving. The kind of marksmanship it takes to survive most legal self defense gunfights is quite different from what usually gets practiced at the range.
And yes, some people appear to be immune to the stress but they are almost as rare as unicorn farts.

I need recommendation for me a concealed carry pistol. I qualify for the special pricing program for LEO and first responders at local gun shop. I can get the new glock 26 4th generation for $400 but want to make sure there isn't something better for a CCW choice before buying?

I love a glock for CC but personally I would advise against the 26. I prefer a 23 or 19. The are a little bigger but you get more rounds and a better grip. Not to mention a slightly longer sight radius. I had a 27 which is a 40 cal version of the 26 and never cared for the 2 finger grip. If I added a grip extender to get a full grip I was up to a 23/19 size and figured why not just carry the 23

If you're looking for a pocket gun, then I'd recommend either the Ruger LCR or S&W 642 Airweight. Both are super lightweight and in .38 special, which is a great defensive round (that no one has talked about in this thread). If you're looking for a holster-carry gun, then I personally prefer the Springfield XD line (XD9SC for me), but Glocks are also great guns. Those styles are the polymer-based frames, which really helps with the weight factors when talking about concealed-carrying. For a while I carried a full size Beretta 92FS, but when I switched to the XD I felt like I wasn't hardly carrying one at all (compared to the Beretta). Best thing you can do is go to a gun shop and palm them all and see which feels best to you.
Jesus... I hope you know Him personally like I do.
