Tried to anchor another fine whitetail with the southern mountain rifle this weekend, but struck out. Had a good buck 50 yards behind me yesterday, but couldn't get turned. I was facing the creek bottom and he came in from the direction I had walked in. I wasn't quite expecting him to show up behind me, so there were plenty of vines, saplings, and limbs between he and me. Doubtful if I would have had a clean shot at him if I'd been able to get turned on him anyway. Such is life, I suppose. Still a good evening sit ... lots of time enjoying the outdoors with my flintlock.

You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?
