I usually throw them on my shoulders and carry them out. One 30’ creek bank was a comedy show though. I think the farthest I’ve hauled one to a pickup point was around 700 yards. I usually end up with ticks on me too.
I stopped field dressing in like 1979

I use the gutless method to quarter them up and then I haul the meat and cape out in a jet sled. So far it’s the easiest way I have found to get one out from deep in the hills , by myself. Those sleds are a pain in the ass. You did everything right up until the dang sled. Throw it in a backpack and walk out with it. Way easier that way than dealing with that sled.

But are more than worthless in mud, downed trees. Plus when I put sled in the bed of my truck with bed cover closed it works as an organizer. Instead of just taking up space like a cart.

I have a cart and a sled. I haven’t used the cart since I got the sled. I loan the cart out to others. The sled works way better for me and like hawndog stated, I use the sled year round in the bed of the truck. With a bedcover on the truck, I use the sled kind of like a drawer for the truck bed and I can easily get to anything by simply sliding it out. Most of the year it holds the kids baseball and softball equipment. I do the same in my suburban.
