Until they have been fired they are the same. Exactly the same. Except for some minor length variation.

Necks on 5.56 tend to be thicker. The real villian is pressure 60 thou for 5.56 55 thou for .223 I've shot some M855 that touched 63 thousand(ok it was "only"62,800) psi. Pop some 5.56 machine gun ammo thru your .223 and you'll see it.
Only hits count.

Until they have been fired they are the same. Exactly the same. Except for some minor length variation. You are wrong. Yep. And, typically, ALL 5.56 brass is thicker and the pressures run much higher than .223. This is why Wylde chambers or 5.56 chambered weapons are preferred over .223 chambered weapons.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I agree with what yall are saying but he said he has a round stuck that has not been fired. If it hasn't been fired it should be the same external dimensions whether it is 5.56 or .223. Looks like to me there had to be something on that case that caused it to stick. You should be able to cycle a mixed lot of .223 and 5.56 and if you never pull the trigger they all should cycle fine correct. Help me understand if I am wrong. This particular round hasn't had any pressure on it yet is all I am saying. Yall are talking about the internal specs not the external. Something external made it stick.

As far as removing the stuck case, the bolt carrier has to retract far enough to rotate the bolt head. Beating on a round from the muzzle end without the bolt head unlocking from the chamber is bad juju. I've had one stuck case in my life and I pulled the rear action pin, leveraged the bolt carrier back about a half inch and the round pulled out with the extractor, just as it should have. The ammo was steel cased 7.62x39 with the lacquer coating and it stuck in the really hot chamber after several rounds had been fired.

Ammo is .223 This AR shoots either The gun had been fired about 10 times prior to the jam with ammo from the same lot.
I’m guessing the “slam against the ground” method might work. It will be what I try first.

I’m guessing the “slam against the ground” method might work. It will be what I try first. The ‘slam’ causes the bolt carrier to move back into the buffer tube, thus rotating the bolt head. Same as I described in gently prying the carrier to the rear.

Obviously anyone trying to drive a live cartridge out from the barrel end with the bolt engaged isn't thinking clearly. Remove the bolt first then drive the round out with a cleaning rod with a jag (tip removed). Ive done this several times and is a better option than slamming the butt of the rifle onto a hard surface. This method would be used if your in the field and and needed the firearm and then you don't have any choice but to do it
