Just go switched from alternate to hunter at Fred T Simpson for the 1/31 gun hunt...anyone have any experience huntin here? Should be rut then there

I'm waiting for someone to post that they got chosen for the one hunt they registered for on their first try. We know you're out there. Just like the 10yo who kills a 140 class 10pt. on his first deer hunt. We are congratulating you but we also hate you at the same time.

This was my buddy from down here. He didnt even known what the soa hunts were til the day before registration opened ,and I told him. He's always had good luck. In high school,he was walking through our buddies cow pasture with a 12 gauge, just shooting random stuff,when a nice 120" 10 point stepped out. He busted him. That's a dang good deer for 30 miles from downtown Tampa. It wouldnt surprise me in the least if he arrows a stud on his hunt at fred t simpson. He did give me the 1st invite,but I'll be at my camp the whole opening week and cant get off work the following week to go back up. Good luck to all other hunters that got selected. I got no hard feelings whatsoever towards anyone that got picked and wish em the best.

Maybe I was looking at it wrong but that one specifically says archery where you quoted "gun". The main reason I'm asking is my brother drew as alternate for the Jan 31 hunt for Fed T Stimpson.....we are going either way if he gets bumped up but I would sure love to be carrying the right equipment...........

Yes sir you are right...I caught myself earlier after I posted because I just saw the date and assumed gun on initial look...My bad on that! Yeah my buddy and I will be bowhunting as I think I saw every hunt on that place being archery only? Fingers crossed y'all get bumped up and if yall do, let's def meet up and have a beer!

I found out about it because of an email from outdoor Alabama. Looked what it was about and registered that afternoon. Got chosen for Cedar Creek Gun.

My brother's status changed from alternate to Hunter but without email notification. Don't want to get my hopes up but looks good for us for the Jan 31 hunt at Fred T. Stimpson.

Well dang, alternate to hunter...maybe unicorns are real too

My brother talked to the Stimpson warden and confirmed his status. We are good for the Jan 31 hunt - even got an email indicating we have area 13. Neither of us can make the scouting weekend due to work though.

Any comments from the scout weekend?

I went and somewhat liked what I seen. It was hard to tell though because all the leaves were still on the trees but there was plenty of sign so I'm optimistic. I did jump a fawn but that was the only deer seen.

I'll be on the bow hunt the last weekend of this month. One of my buddies got drawn for it and his original partner backed out. So this will be my second time at stimpson this year, since I went as my dads guest in Oct, and will go again for the youth hunt that I got drawn for the next weekend on Jan 6.

There are an absolute ton of deer on stimpson.
