I had 6 moles removed by my dermatologist about a month ago. One of them came back with some sort of abnormality so I had to get more tissue around that mole removed. I had that done this past Monday. I didn't know until just prior to the procedure that they wanted me to be on lifting restrictions due to the incision. I had planned to take the entire week off to rebuild the back deck on our house. I've had 4 moles cut out in the past and I've ripped the stitches out of all 4. So when they were getting ready to do the procedure I told them to put some extra stitches in, so I wouldn't pull the incision open while building my deck. They did put extra stitches in and after I got stitched up, the nurse put Steri Strips across the incision for added protection.

By Monday night the area around the incision was itching. I could tell the Steri Strips were causing the itching, or at least that was where I was itching. By Tuesday morning the area around the incision was miserably itching. By Tuesday night I had halfway scratched the Steri Strips off and Wed morning I got my wife to remove them. The area is between my shoulder blades and I can't reach it or I would have taken the strips off earlier.

So today is Saturday and I still have red welts on my skin where the Steri Strips were. Straight red lines, perpendicular to the incision. Still itching like crazy.

Is there anything other than Benadryl and cortisone cream that I can do to ease this up? It's driving me crazy.

Allergy to medical adhesive (medical tape, bandaids, etc )is pretty common. It’s also possible to be allergic to the neosoorin if you are using it.

What can I do to calm this down? I've scrubbed the area repeatedly with soap and water. No neosporin. I wish I had some Dex.

Not sure if it is better or worse but tea tree oil can be used for itches.

Well, that's good to know. LOL

I think I'm gonna try a 36 grit flap disk. Don't have a belt sander.

Not sure if this is a big deal still or not but benadryl and Zantac. If u have already put the steroid cream on there then it’s ok but may cause some delayed healing around the site. Next time either do stitches or dermabond.

Only accurate rifles are interesting.
