My son and I went to a spot on my club where we had yanked a shock gobble out of one Wednesday. Didn't hear a thing at first light. Sat and listened until 8:00. Decided to drive to other area of club. Drove less than 500 yards and saw a gobbler in logging road in freshly thinned pines. Drove on past to next road, not 300 yards. Eased in to where I thought he could get to us. Put out a hen and a jake decoy and waited until 8:50 to send out some light yelps and clucks. Within 20 minutes he was strutting on ridge opposite us. There he strutted until 10:00. Finally broke and came easing in. He wasn't too sure about the dekes spinning in the wind but he came too close. 35 yard shot. DRT. 20 pounds, 9" beard and sharp 1 1/4" Spurs. Have pics but am not set up to post here yet.
