Years ago me and my oldest brother were on our way home and it was about the end of march... we come up to the beginning of our driveway and there is a gobbler strutting at our mailbox all by himself...dad was on the tractor 200 yards away and me and my brother are flipping out, so we slowly drive down to the house get on our john deere gator and go BACK across the road to my grandads house to tell our dad there is a turkey strutting at the mailbox, we got on his nerves so bad he got off the tractor gave my brother his old 12 gauge with 7.5 shot dove load and said go kill that turkey you get one shot. So here i am watching my brother walking up the powerline in blue shorts a red shirt and dove load....hmmmm so me and dad are sitting there talking about how there is no way this is going to happen then all the sudden BAMMMMM!!!! Then we hear a victory shout and me and dad take off running up to the mailbox and he dang sure got that joker! Bird only moved 30 yards from our mailbox since we pulled down the driveway. That bird is now mounted above our tv and the only one mounted in the house today.

16 years old and no turkey mentor means you get other 16 year olds to go with you. We learning on our own and I got a borrowed mossberg 835 cause it's camo and it's got to be better than my old Woodstock A5. There's 3 of us hunting together this morning and we fool with a bird til 9 or so with no luck. 2 of us are walking back to the truck, the other had tried to go after a different turkey and was already waiting on us at the truck. We get there and he's like "y'all don't hear that turkey?" Well, we listen for a minute and sure enough he's gobbling back where we just left. We all 3 then head back there to him. Now, there was only 2 of us toting guns for some reason that morning. Me and Ryan. I had only killed one turkey before and I sure as heck wasn't giving this one away so we agreed to both shoot the same turkey on the count of 3. When we get in there, we had decided to try to get real close before calling. As we were sneaking in, i kept hearing this funny sound, almost like a vibration. We stuck up a decoy and the turkey gobbled close. I just couldn't get what that funny sound was as I could feel it more than I could hear it. Well, I see the turkey coming and I glance over and Bo is standing between me and Ryan. The turkey goes behind a tree and I'm like "Bo! WTH you doing" so he just falls on the ground. The turkey comes on out and I tell Ryan to shoot him cause he's on his side and behind a bush from me. I can see him and I'm ready, he's just behind a huckleberry though. Ryan pulls the trigger and he ain't got a shell in his chamber. The turkey hears that and does that pause before panic look that they do. Now having tried to learn this art of turkey hunting on my own, I quickly realized the panic mode that was bout to take place, so I shot him through the bush. The turkey flies straight up to about 40' then comes back down and starts running in a circle. Now I'm standing there kicking at the turkey cause he keeps running into me. I got my gun shouldered but can't shoot cause Bo and Ryan are in the way. Bo finally runs over and grabs the turkey by the neck and body slams him on the ground. The turkey just lays there, motionless between us three, so I lean my gun up agains a tree and hoot like Eddie Salter. This sound spurs the turkey back to life! The turkey runs between Ryan's legs and Bo dives after him pulling out all his tail feathers. I take to the chase and tackle the turkey as he gets caught in a muscadine vine bunch. I sat on that turkey's back and choked him to death with my hands. 100% true story!

one morning my brother and i went together with one gun...mine. i had the barrel cut off and used a full choke. however, this morning the gun had an extra full choke that i had not even shot yet...forgot it was in the gun. to make a long story short. the turkey gobbles about 125 times that morning, and he finally ended up on my side. about 25 steps, my brother says shoot him. i let him come 10 more steps and lowered the boom. he flew off as i sat there with my mouth wide open. about 125 yards in the clearcut, the turkey falls stone dead. after the hunt, i checked that choke. not a pellet in the cardboard box, but the wadding was right where that turkey had a half inch hole through him. i shot again, same thing. i killed that bird with the wadding.

I chased him thru the woods and finally stopped him with the 7th shot.
Well of course. 7 is the number of being finished/completeness. God Bless, David B.
