This is most likely the case.

This was my first thought. Maybe next time you go in he'll hand you a case of beer.

Or ask you to unstop the toilet.

I have a daily devotional emailed to me from Our Daily Bread.

This mornings was spot on for this situation.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.—1 Corinthians 15:58

A financial advisor I know describes the reality of investing money by saying, “Hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.” With almost every decision we make in life there is uncertainty about the outcome. Yet there is one course we can follow where no matter what happens, we know that in the end it will not be a wasted effort.

Our life and witness for Jesus Christ are not in vain.

"Hate is an acid that does more damage to the vessel in which it is stored, than the victim on which it is poured."

"Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity."

Most of y'all are understanding where I'm coming from. A few don't so let me be clear. It isn't eating at me. I'm not worried about it. I won't stop frequenting the gas station and it isn't about the $1.50. It just surprised me that he thanked me profusely in one breath and charged me in the second. Just not how I would have handled it had the roles been swapped and I was curious if I was reading too much into it. No harm no foul and truthfully, if I was to go by there again today and he needed help with something I could do, I'd help him out again. That's just how I am. Maybe that's why I'll be poor my whole life. I look at it like this, somewhere down the road I'll need help from someone and they'll help me out in a jam and won't charge me. If not, as mentioned earlier, the good Lord is keeping score and that's all that really matters.

Read it and understood what you were saying Ford150
I also find it very odd. You did this without any expectations of payment and out of the goodness of your heart.
He in turn should have at least said "that one is on me, thanks for your help".

If this were an employee/manager of said store, things would be different and someone could have viewed that as stealing.
