I guess he had just found out? Ten years later?

That's the problem I have with the whole story. Should have killed him ten years ago

Maybe he believed in the justice system and let it play out, but when the man only got a few years, he took justice into his own hands.

Justifiable homicide wouldn't have taken me no where near that long.

Got to be more to the story. The way the story reads this guy has been out of jail for years now. Curious what made the guy snap now.

Didn't even get a few years. He was originally given 5 years but that was reduced to probation after I think one month. I can imagine that this has been grinding this dad down for over ten years till he finally popped. I can see it happening that way. I hope to never be in that situation myself but I can see myself doing the same thing but I doubt it would take me that long for it to consume me to the point of revenge.

Wonder if the prosecution can get a fair trial in Cullman Co.

Probably not. Maybe they'll move the trial to Marshall county and I can be on the jury.......

Naw, the one that got killed,what they should have done is sent his sorry ass to one of our more popular prisons. When one of the inmates found out what he was in for and word spread , and by chance he mistakenly got put in general population.
I guarantee her daddy did him a favor. I can tell you I know for a fact he would not have lasted a week.

Sometimes it takes years for the real effects on the victims in these type cases to fully show up. Chances are there are some things the daughter never discussed when this was happening.

Wouldn't doubt the dead molester did it again to someone else lately. The father found out and decided to do something he wanted to years ago. Leopard can't change his spots.

Sounds like Rapist moved back into parents house and this guy found out or mabe just ran into him at the store.

Whatever the chain of events, the fine citizens of Cullman should insist, no, demand this man be freed immediately and permanently.

hopefully he will get a sentence like a guy that worked for my parents years ago. He came home from work late on night caught his best friend goin out his 11yr old daughters window. he was in for less than a year. judge told him he would not have got that if he would not have reloaded.

They'll probably charge him with premeditated murder..He only done what should've been done in the first place.There's no place on this earth for people like him..But sadly some people think otherwise...I say Good riddance to the bastage!

This is probably correct. Recent info could have got him stirred up. Or he might have been brooding over this for years and just waiting for the right time. I bet he just saw the guy at the gas station and decided to do it. I doubt he really had it planned out for that time and place.

probably right. I tend to listen to all the evidence and make a decision. Rather than take some news article for face value. The dad was probably justified in what he done. But theres a reason people aint prosecuted soley based on a news paper article

My experienced/educated guess.....that poor father's daughter is now a young woman.....and experiencing lots of life difficulties as a result of what she endured. The lasting psychological effects of such traumatic events can be unbelievable until you witness it first hand in the life of the victim.

I agree with this. I have seen way to many people convicted in the newspaper who later had charges dropped or were acquitted.

What additional evidence is needed? The man was convicted back in 2002.

That doesn't give the father a free pass but I can't blame him for doing so.

But what were the extenuating circumstances. Was there any evidence. Did the guy plead out on several charge and this charge was threw in there just to get a conviction. Its possible the man didnt due anything to the girl and it some kind of custody or divorce ploy. My point is this. It could be a thousand diffrent things. We dont know. All we know is what the article said and still dont know to what degree of accuracy it had. But i tell ya this much. The man waited 10 years. But couldn't wait for the man to leave gas station before shooting it up. What if he'd have accidentily shot someone else. Usually i play along on here for arguments sake but since i was singeled out and then questioned again. I felt like this deserved an honest answer

I thinks it's a dayum shame..What good did he do for his daughter now? She's what 17 18 years old now.And he waits this long to finally do something.She's at a pivotal point in her life and she's probably gonna lose her father now..

According to the media it wasn't just the sex offender. The shot inside the store was intended to kill another guy the step daughter was dating/dated?

Well as more info comes out the father don't look like the hero in this after all. The first person he shot at was a kid who is dating his step daughter. He also endangered several kids at the site of the first shooting. He then went to the dudes house and killed him in front of his parents.

Trying to shoot someone in a store & then following him home seems cowardly to me..If that would've been my child I'd have to put my hands on him.I'd would've made it much more personal, I would have wanted to feel the life drain out of the pos body...

One of the articles stated that he intended to shoot the guy who had a baby with his stepdaughter. He stated that the (ex) boyfriend beat on her until the baby was born. I will try to find the article this came from.

The incident at the store wasn't the guy that was killed. According to media reports.

Supporters are lining up behind an Alabama father charged with killing the man who went to prison for molesting his daughter more than a decade ago, but a man who came face-to-face with the alleged gunman said Tuesday the shooter doesn't deserve any praise.

A Facebook site created to show support for the man had more than 950 members within hours of its creation, and donors gave more than $350 on another website to help fund his legal defense. Jason Lackey, a longtime friend of the alleged shooter, contributed $150.

"The guy was guilty of raping his little girl, and I guess he dealt with it for 12 years and it just built up," said Lackey, who has a recreational vehicle business in Cullman. "I won't say (he) had the right to go murder him, but I understand when he did."

The Associated Press doesn't identify victims of sex crimes, and it isn't naming the man charged with murder to protect his daughter's identity.

The father is charged with murder in the slaying of Raymond Earl Brooks, 59, a registered sex offender who was fatally shot on Sunday outside the rural home where he lived with his parents. Brooks pleaded guilty to sexually abusing the man's daughter in 2002, and the Alabama Department of Corrections said Brooks served 27 months of a five-year prison term before being released early in February 2005.

The father also is charged with opening fire on a stepdaughter's boyfriend outside a convenience store moments before the slaying.

Mike Hays, who cooks and operates a small barbecue restaurant inside Berlin Plaza Quick Stop, where the shooting occurred, said he came face-to-face with the shooter after the man opened fire outside and then entered the store looking for his intended victim, who wasn't hurt.

"People here are calling him a hero for killing a child molester. I'm calling him a psychopathic lunatic for endangering peoples' lives, including mine," Hays said.

After stopping his motorcycle at an intersection outside the store, the father fired once at a man who was standing beside an ice cooler, Hays said. The bullet entered an exterior wall of the store and chipped a window but no one was injured.

Hays said he retrieved his own weapon and confronted the gunman near the cash register.

"He had the gun down by his side. He was calm, as calm as you are standing there now. But he had that look in his eye," said Hays. "I have no problem with him shooting a child molester, just not 12 years later. If it was my daughter he would have died back in 2002."

Brooks' father, Ralph Brooks, told WBRC-TV in Birmingham that his son did not deserve to die. He said Raymond Earl Brooks turned his life around after his conviction and lived a godly life that included being active in his church. Because his son's conviction happened so long ago, he said he couldn't be sure if the shooting was a form of revenge.

"It would be unbelievable to hold animosity in your heart for 12 years," Brooks said.

A person who answered the door at the Brooks' home Tuesday told an Associated Press reporter the family was making funeral arrangements and was not available to comment immediately.

Lackey said he was told by a relative that the shootings followed a family argument over the stepdaughter's boyfriend that grew heated enough to include a reference to the sexual abuse case from years before.

"I'm 100 percent behind him," Lackey said.

That bottom paragraph confirms what i was thinking..I was thinking someone must have said something to him..

All the argument about him being justified for the killing should fly out the window with the fact that he first tried to kill his daughters boyfriend and was shooting into a store where other people were present and could have been killed. Sounds like he snapped to me and wanted to kill someone to me.

That poor man carried it way too long. I don't blame him for killing the molester but something set him off after all these years and he snapped. In rural Alabama it seems to me that once the identity of a child molester is known it could be handled without much to do.

All this could have been avoided if the people in the criminal
Justice system would do their damn job.

This guy from LA did basically the same thing several years ago and only got 5 years probation. He shot his son's rapist at point blank range in the head with a .38..in the middle of an airport....While news cameras filmed it! See video below.

When this took place faggots and other 'liberals' didn't have a chokehold on society nor the court systems. Until these types are exterminated things will not change.
