What started out as a promising year for turkey land has been reduced to hunting 99% WMA. Not a bad deal, but the birds are just starting to break up and gobble good. They are about two weeks behind. Got several pinpointed, if the weather will cooperate I hope to knock a few down before NE/KS. I just haven't been able to get any good opps this year as I thought I would. I did get close Thurs. Called in a good one and his hen but he snuck around a knoll and got to my 5 oclock without me seeing him. I got pinned down at 10-15 yds. He didn't see the hen so he smelled a rat and dropped back down over the rise and moved out. I know where him and his buddy are. I'll get em. smile

Good job everyone on your birds.

Any luck this week guys?I should have had #4 yesterday,to make a long story short I had an opening I could have shot him at 35 yards but I was gonna let him come a little closer and get to a bigger opening,it was 2 gobblers together, well before they got to my opening I was gonna shoot at they decided to leave the foodplot and go into the woods,I was trying to find them in the thick stuff and I let one see me when I moved, game over,I got their number now and will be back after them this week

I haven't been able to hunt any mornings lately. I about had one dead on Thursday afternoon and he's a stud too. I've got a few pics of him and he's a double beard with some hooks. He seems to have my number and I can't close the deal on him

Went with Johnal3 this morning. We had one gobble about 50-75 times, had him within 100 yds, and he decided to head away from us. We hung in there till noon and couldn't find him. Story of my season. smile

It went pretty well. It was windy and cold the first day. I'm talking so windy the feathers blew off my strutter decoy. We were hunting central Nebraska about 40 miles NW of Grand Island.

Next couple of days were beautiful. Heard a lot of gobbling early and killed a big Rio at 5 pm. He was gobbling by himself. We didn't see as many gobblers on our side of the property as we have seen in the past so we're thinking about trying a new spot next year.

From Nebraska I drove down to my aunt's farm in Kansas. My uncle told me their Spring was about a month behind so I heard very little gobbling and what I did hear was early. I did manage to kill a nice bird the first morning out. He was with 6 hens and I called in two of the hens and he followed them to me. The day I left Kansas it got HOT, like 101 degrees hot! Fun trip overall.

Good luck with your trip.
