So I recently moved back home to Alabama and am looking to get into Bow hunting for the first time this next season. Are my expectations of buying a good bow with sights, peep hole, kisser buttons, etc. (tell me what else I need, lol) around $500 a real expectation?

Sure. Depending on how picky you are about brand. Check Craigslist and archerytalk for used stuff. Or maybe something new that Bass Pro offers. Here is one right here. This is not my bow. http://bham.craigslist.org/spo/4369919919.html

Would it be better to buy brand new and have everything set up to me or are all bows set up the same? No matter what the person's size or whatever else goes into affect is?

Would it be better to buy brand new and have everything set up to me or are all bows set up the same? No matter what the person's size or whatever else goes into affect is? It is always best to have a bow fitted to you. Not all bows are setup the same. The only place you will find a new bow with everything you need for $500 would be Bass Pro. You have to add the cost of arrows and a release as well. You will not get a new high end bow(Bowtech, Mathews, Hoyt, etc.) for $500. Those companies also make low end models that perform just about as well for less money. You may can get into one of those. Since are in Wetumpka, I would drive over to Archery Unlimited in Prattvile and talk to the owner, Rick Hellums. He will tell you everything you need to know. Tell him you are brand new to archery and that Kenny Moore sent you. The ad works for me. Here is what is says: I have a 2010 Bowtech Admiral FLX comes with quality xd hunter drop away rest, apex 4 pin sight, 5 arrow apex quiver, tru fire release, 12 Beman Bonecollector arrows with practice tips, 5 G5 t3 mechanical broadheads and rebuilds, Limb saver stabilizer and limb inserts and a plano hard case. The whole set up is over 1200$

You need to figure out your draw length which you could do or get an bow shop to do it. And decide what poundage you want to shoot. I would say 60-70 lb is most common. But 50 lb bows can get the job done as well. I actually have a 50 lb Bowtech General ready to shoot(minus arrows and release) I am selling for $300.

buy a good 50-60lb range bare( no accessories) bow used and in good condition. Make sure it has an adjustable draw length before you buy unless you know what your DL is. After you buy it, take it to a bow shop, NOT BASS PRO, and get all the accessories new.

Are my expectations of buying a good bow with sights, peep hole, kisser buttons, etc. (tell me what else I need, lol) around $500 a real expectation? Ride over to Prattville and see Rick and the guys at Archery Unlimited. They may have some deals on used bows as well as their selection of new ones. For what it's worth, tell them Rhett's dad sent you their way.
Take your kids hunting today....one day, they will be taking you.

I have a fully Decked out PSE Xforce At my other store on 231 over the river bridge on the left Best Pawn and Exchange. Has a very nice case If I remember right Truglo sights and I think A fall away rest Plus Arrows. If interested you can go and talk to my wife Tell her Cody sent you down there. I only got to play with the bow once to check it out and make sure everything was good to go on it.

Thanks for all the info, I am not ready to make a purchase until I pay my Jeep off here in a few months. I am just looking now to prepare myself for the purchase in the near future. Thanks again!
