Typically mechanicals will fly better. Fixed heads have more surface area hitting the air which can cause them to plan off line. That's why you will hear a lot about broadhead tuning. Most fixed will be tougher but mechanicals give a bigger cut. So its just preference. I like playing around with both kinds. I had ramcats and rage hypodermic in my quiver this past year.

haleyville al,
muzzy tried some mechanicals shot two deer never found either one. first was a quartering shot ran off with the arrow in her. second was a pass through found arrow in field and never opened. found very little blood on both. they hit the trash and I went back to muzzy. haven't looked back.

Slick Tricks and the Muzzy 3 blade for me. I tried mechanical and did not always get a pass through. I never have had a muzzy not pass through. I even had a Muzzy remove an opposite shoulder on a doe I shot quartering away.

I shot a doe this year quartering away with the rage extreme and I aimed for the off side shoulder to see how well it penetrated. Complete pass through and buried up 6" in the ground. She went maybe 10yds and was down.

Been shooting them for years and they are still working

G5 Striker or Slick Trick for me. I'm equally confident with either. Those things fly AWESOME out of a well tuned bow, penetrate great, and will mess up a deer's world. I've got the worst deer luck on the planet (other than Vernon Tull) and I just can't risk something going wrong with a mechanical.

Have shot Muzzy and Slick Trick for several years. Slick Tricks are accurate and lethal. Shot my first deer with an expandable this fall. I used a 100 grain Rage Extreme just for the heck of it. I have seen my buddy take several deer with the Rage heads and I was just curious. I shot a doe in Illinois quartering away at 35 yards with the Rage. She made it a total of 40 yards before doing a pile driver into a small drainage in the field. I must say I was impressed with the Rage. The one I used had the shock collar instead of the o-ring for blade retention. Might have to keep a couple in my quiver from now on!

I know there are a lot of good heads these days, both fixed and expandable. The two that have my interest right now are the NAP spitfire maxx and the QAD Exodus.

Thunderhead 125's. Fly straight and tuff. Shot 2 elk and the broadheads are still ready to go again.

A Rage made the nastiest bloodtrail I ever caused. I have killed several with them. AND I have had 1 or 2 that had poor penetration and lost deer. I KNOW when a Slick Trick hits its target it is going to cut. I shot thunderheads and muzzy with good results, but Slick Trick 125 magnums are the best I have shot.
