I'm a believer big time in the pulling power of trophy rocks during the summer. This year I'm thinking of buying the crushed rock and doing somethings different.I'm going to drive a small pipe a couple of feet in the lick and pull it out. I'm then going to fill it with crushed trophy rock creating a mineral vein. The other idea was to put the rock in a tater sack and hang it off the ground. Anybody else do either?

Ive done a couple of spots where i took the back hoe and dug a hole about 3ft wide x 2 ft deep. Took one of those large plastic tubs like we use for gut buckets put it in the hole and filled it almost to the top with dirt.

I then put my trophy rock and mineral block on it. The minerals that dissolve will stay in the buckets dirt and not leach away. The plastic bucket will last for years when out of UV light and keep everything in one spot.

Have also done this with large plastic flower pots and stump holes.

I buy black or green pots/buckets and don't place them in any low areas where you get a lot of runoff or possible water standing.

back in the old days, use to but salt in burlap bag and hang 8ft in air. When it rained the salt rain out.

I bought a bag of that crushed trophy rock last year to try it out. Deer didn't touch it. So I went back to using the rocks themselves.

I had a similar experience to MS_Hunter above...buried the rock about halfway, deer are still visiting that site today, and that was over a year ago. Poured the crushed stuff out by a feeder this year and I can't tell they even noticed it. Beats me??

Are you going to crush a trophy rock or do they sell it that way? FYI, a crushed trophy rock would be the EXACT SAME thing as Redmonds All Natural Trace Mineral salt. Trophy rocks and Redmonds comes out of the same hole in the ground. 50# bag of Redmonds salt is $8.50 per bag......

I would stay away from Redmonds Natural, all the deer do is dig a big hole that holds water.

Ice cream salt or rock salt for me does well especially after reading the analysis on the back of the trophy rock.

I use buck jam religiously. Doesn't matter what flavor. I will go down in a creek bottom and rake back the leaves in a four foot circle and find me a rotten log laying close by. I lay the rotten log right in the middle of the bare dirt circle and pour the buck jam all over the log and all over the bare dirt. I hang my camera looking at the lick. There are usually deer on the camera within a few hours of me leaving. I kept a camera up over a buck jam lick from last April till October and was averaging 1000 pics per week. I put out one gallon in April and freshened it up with another gallon in July.

The stuff I'm talking about is FOUR65 which is a 30 pound bag of 2 to 3 inch busted pieces of Trophy rock.

I think what I used was the actual "Rack Rock Crush", which they advertise to the be a real crushed up Rack Rock. It's just a dark graphite colored powder.

Where can you get the Redman's? Tractor Suppy, local feed store.....

Trophy rocks are expensive for what ya get IMO. The salt is what is the drawing card. I've used a mix of 2 parts loose red trace mineral to 1 part di-cal phosphate for years. It works very good, has some mineral value and is cost effective. I get more pics than I care to delete with that recipe also.

You would be better off getting some Record Rack Mineral from Tractor Supply. I will be mixing it in my mineral licks this year.

About the closest place from you bigt is in TN for Redmonds..

2Dogs wish I could find some di-cal here locally. I would mix it with the Redmonds, use to use it years ago.

Ha ha, we have the opposite problem, we can get the di-cal here in NA,but not Redmonds. That would be a fine mix for sure.

If anyone in NEA is gonna make a run to Tenn for a load of Redmonds, I'd like to try some.

I've still got a small stash of the 40lb Trophy Rocks that I used to sell on here. Gotta put one out on my place soon.
