I have 700 acres and I'm the only who hunt this property.
I've been running my cameras since late summer and have pics of ten 3.5+ year old bucks on this property. There's a large number of does and I try to take 4-5 every year.

The question I have is, how many of these bucks should I take without over doing it. The guy that hunts the land next to me has 1200 acres and he also is the only hunter on that land. We both only try to shoot mature deer and both of us normally bow hunt only.

Do you think this a normal amount of mature deer or should it he higher.

As far as bucks, I'd only shoot what I'd put on the wall.

83% of all statistics are made up.

What He Said!

You should be able to grow some terrific deer with two blocks of land set aside like you have.

I think I will need to come hunt your property, observe the deer movement, see the age structure of your deer and possibly shoot the biggest buck on your property before I can give you my expert opinion on the health of your herd. HA

You won't be able to kill enough mature bucks to hurt them. You could kill you limit every season if you wanted

That's a lot 3.5 yr old deer for 700 acres.

That's way more 3.5 year olds than most properties on 700 acres.

Let them age and keep up the doe killing and hope you get some mature ones in the future.

I wouldn't say 10 3.5+ bucks on 700 acres is out of the ordinary. We don't have a big deer population and on around 400-450 we usually have 4-7 and I assume there are some we don't see. Of course they probably go outside of our lease but still stay on it reguarly.
You could limit out every year and not hurt a thing. Reasons like you're describing and many others is why I hate the 3 buck limit. If you've been blessed to have a property or multiple properties to hunt where you can take more than 3 bucks then I believe you should be able to.
