Question about cold weather in Bama. I have lived in Chelsea for about 7 years. I have never wrapped my faucets or anything. Should I be concerned about this cold weather next week? I do even down here when its going to be a hard freeze for a matter of hours overnight. A light frost is one thing but when it gets down in the 20's for more than 3 hours or so its worth it. Also my pipes are on the north side of my house and shop so when the wind blows hard all day Ive had water hoses stay frozen throughout the day even if it creeps into the 40's.

if it gets as cold as they say for as long as they say...yes, pipes might be an issue. Typically that is the case when a supply line is in an exterior wall. Even more so if there is a wind.
When I was in College at Ole Miss there was a big artic blast that settled in for a couple of days. Low teens to single digits. Pipes burst after a couple of days everywhere around town. I know because my fraternity house room was below an 3rd floor upstairs bathroom and all my stuff got flooded.

And the worst is on the way, Swampy.
Talked with a guy in Wisconsin this morning. He said it's terrible now and will be worse there by Monday.
North Dakota's forecast this weekend (today, basically, through Monday) calls for "life-threatening wind chills" ... down to minus-40 and minus-50 degrees.

wrap them up, $3.00 in tape and insulation is a lot cheaper than replacing pipes and flooded walls.

Swampy, Ive wondered how folks up north deal with that. Is plumbing done diferently up there? Supply lines buried deeper?
I would imagine codes restrict certain things on exterior wall plumbing and such too.

The guy where we go in Missouri turkey hunting told us they bury the pipes 3' minimum and all the spigots have that funny looking handle that you have to pull up to turn it on. Said it has a valve or something under ground to let the water drain back out of it when it's not on. I had to ask because none of them around his place were wrapped.

The building code address the frost/freeze line in regional zones for footings and plumbing.
A drip will not help if it is super cold for a long time down south...gotta let it run.
