I know they are building slab houses on prairie soil in Montgomery. Everyone that lives down that way will know why that's a bad idea. But they are throwing up houses all over Montgomery and prattville.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Can you imagine the look on some of the folks faces when they wake up one morning and there's a crack across half the house. That prairie soil is some crazy chit the way it cracks and pulls apart.

I've been involved in the building of hundreds of house and from what I've read here I would avoid them. Find a local independent builder who takes pride in his work and talk to some folks he's built for. X2

But they are throwing up houses all over Montgomery and prattville. Most of Prattville does not have prairie soil, but the south side of P-ville towards Autaugaville is on the grey clay. If you got a location picked, take a shovel and dig two feet deep into it. Post a pic of the dirt and hole and we will tell you if its prairie clay or not. If it is prairie then the foundation area will have to be dug out and filled with red clay. More Money, yes, but having your house crack in half is a bitch. I grew up in the east Montgomery area before that was figured out and the way we saved our house was to water the foundation every summer.

Most folks think it's the rain/water that makes them settle. Just the opposite. That last drought down here screwed a bunch of them up. I have a buddy that's made a small fortune jacking them back up.

Call Manning and Feilo or Ronnie Nummy home builders. Life long Prattville residents. Great people and fine builders. I would stay away from the large track builders.

But they are throwing up houses all over Montgomery and prattville. Homes built on prairie soil should be built on a post tension slab to eliminate foundation settlement.
