The vx2 isn't nearly the glass the monarch is , imo. You have to go to the vx3 to get comparable to the monarch.

Maybe, but the Vx-2 is rated at 94% light transmission, and the Monarch is at 95%. The VX-3 is 98%

manufacturers claims of light transmission tell you nothing about how a scope performs in the field. Shmidt & Bender only claims 95% light transmission and I guarantee they are far and away better in low light than the vx3.

As I get older my eyes get worse ... Especially in low light conditions. Ive had real issues at the rifle range at dusk with my Redfield Tracker (admittedly a cheap scope). My BIL recommended I get a Nikon Monarch 4-16x50 so thats what I bought and I am glad I did, it's pretty awesome. I know it's $200 more than your budget but it seems you are considering saving some more ... I don't think you would be disappointed

I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin
Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

I ordered the Nikon Monarch 2.5 x 10 x 42 with BDC reticle tonight after doing a ton of research. I felt like I was getting the most for my money with that one. I can't wait to get it mounted up and sighted in!

I've got a Bushnell Elite 3200 and 4200. Both are very good hunting scopes for the money. I think I paid around $200 for them.

I posted before seeing your latest post. My brother has used the same Nikon Monarch for years and it's been a very good scope.
