yall ever seen a slime develop in your pump sprayer? mixed the concentrate in my dedicated roundup sprayer early in spring, used part of it and put away. next time i went to use it, nozzle clogged pretty quick. opened it up a saw this light colored, stringy slime in sprayer. got a new sprayer and mixed some more from same bottle. same result. i've not seen this before. i've seen a dark precipitant develop over winter, but not this. pretty aggravating.

I did a quick Google search just now using this phrase: "Roundup slime in sprayer". The hits that came back indicated that this is a common phenomenon. This is just a guess on my part, but aside from a chemical reaction, you may simply be growing a culture in your tank. Do a Google search and see all the discussion. The first two hits were from a QDMA website. Good luck.

I had that happen after it sits from one season to the next.

You can't leave chemical in your sprayer! I run mine out then run a full tank of water through it evrytime I use any sprayer.

They always sell round up in an amber, or bottle that protects it from light. Then probably light, and especially sunlight destroys the chemical.

Plus many chemicals are stable when concentrated, but once you dilute them they don't "last" as long.

always put up sprayers dry and empty. I use a lot of sprayers in my work and they dont last long if they are put up wet, even if they got bleach or gas in them.

It may be the chemical residue that dried on the sides of the tank after you used it. I know on our tractor tank sprayers that if we don't clean them with ammonia after the summer that they will have white residue in the tank come spring and once it gets wet it dislodges from the tank and clogs every nozzle. It's a mess.

just did same google search. i did look at a few strings that came up. sounds kinda similar to my issue, but not exactly. i probably need to quit storing liquid in sprayer and start cleaning the container. that said, i think i got an old or just bad bottle in this case. been doing same thing for 25 years and i never saw anything like this.

New sprayers are bad to foul up cause they are made of cheap plastics that break down easy, and the fittings are cheap pot-metal or more cheap plastic.
The old sprayers which last 25 yrs have brass fittings and stainless bodies. Dale Gribble has been using the same Russian sprayer for his Dale's Dead Bug business for 35 years, but he wont say how he got a Russian made sprayer. wink

I don't know if Roundup is a salt or not, But I might rinse out my spraying equipment as if I were using a salt base. You could pour up your remainder in a separate container and keep it out of sunlight like these guys are saying. Good luck, MSUDog.

I'm guessing you're talking about a pump up sprayer? Next time you empty it out, put a quart of household ammonia in it and fill it with water. It will take all the chemical residue out of the sprayer. I use a quart of ammonia per 25 gallons of tank size on a tractor sprayer. You'll be surprised what comes out of a "clean" tank if you put ammonia in it.

I finally got my plots finished today, had a heck of a mess with the spray clogging up the small filters. Somebody told me to use white vinegar mixed 50/50 with water to clean the tank. I won't ever leave mixed gly in a tank again. I'm going to clean everything up tomorrow and start spraying some cogon next week.
