I've been querying a lot I know, but hey I'm new to the area. Anyway I would like to buy some whole skipjacks. Anyone in the Madison County (or close drive for me) sell bait

I don't believe I've ever seen any of the tackle/bait shops with skips.

Go to the tailrace at Guntersville dam, tie on something small and shiny or white with a treble hook, throw it into the edge of the fastest current you can find, and rip it through the water wide open. Have a cooler with ice handy.

Keep in mind that it is illegal to use skipjack for bait in any of the coosa river impoundments.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

What's the reasoning behind that?

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I would guess they don't want baby skipjack swimming all over the waters.

There aren't any skipjack in the coosa river as of now and they want to keep it that way. Personally, I wouldn't mind having them. I would love to striper fish and catfish with them.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

Well as for lay, Logan Martin, and Neely Henry I haven't caught any or heard of them. I can't speak for Mitchell, Weiss, or Jordan seeing as I don't fish them.

The dcnr is also in an uproar about blueback herring being introduced into smith lake.

I was told, probably two years ago, the department believes bluebacks have been in Smith for at least four or five years (at that point).

They apparently have been in long enough to be reproducing. Definitely can change the dynamic of the lake, and if they get through the dam into the Sipsey and on down the Warrior it would not be good (if they survived).

Skipjacks will end up in the Coosa. Only a matter of time. Probably the herring, too.
