Wondering what some of you would do in my situation. The image below is the area that I am hunting on my parents property. The red cirlce is where the deer are bedding, the yellow arrow is my stand, the green check mark is where they are feeding on acorns as well as where 8 trails converge on the old road bed that my stand is on. The red area above the check mark is also where they are feeding and a now 50 ft area of rubs and scrapes. Here recently the people who live on the other side of my parents swamp are hunting ducks and it sounds like WW III, (the red x by the swamp). I have not seen any deer but plenty of signs since they started. I found fresh rubs and scrapes today just a few feet from where the green check mark is. I was thinking that since they are hunting just about 150 yds from where I am, I was thinking of going behind my parents house up the old logging road and see if I can have any luck up there. There are at least 15 trails that converge onto the road and they are using the road to get to the swamp for water. Should I try this or give the area a break for a few days and let some of the pressure (at least from me) die down and then get in there when the rut kicks in. Any thoughts on what to do would be really appreciated. [img:left] [/img]

If that one stand is all you are hunting, are you only hunting it when the wind is right or just hunting and hoping for the best? A couple more stand locations could be a big advantage.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I have hunted above the house some but other than the stand there is very little elsewhere. The image is from google maps and is old, the clearcut areas are grown up over 6 ft and so thick that you cant walk through it. The wind generally blows left and right when I am on my stand, so it is either blowing in my direction from the bedding area or vice versa. The morning that I got my doe the wind was blowing from my left toward the beddding area, when the two does walked in from that direction. The weird thing is that the wind will blow in both directions throughout the day.

The weird thing is that the wind will blow in both directions throughout the day. That's why "hunt the wind" is a bogus trick, in the south. The hill country, where I hunt, the wind can seem to blow in every direction at the same time.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Glad to hear someone else say it.

Yes, the wind swirls here in the south unlike out west or many areas in the north. However, the wind will be predominately from one direction...at least one at a time. You need to be able to, optimally, have 2 different stands looking at the same site. I try to place one on the NE and one on the SE of the objective, if possible. Seldom do we get winds out of the E. It's predominately from the N, NW, SW and S. Being on the NE and SE sides of the objective with a little stand off (I prefer about 100 yards off the target location) aids when the wind does swirl slightly. That swirling wind is exactly why I focus more of my energy on smell-camoflage than on eye-camoflage...targetting the deer's much more sensative sense of smell than sight.

That is one thing I tend to take seriously is smell, I dont know how many bottles of scent killer I have gone through already but I believe it works. I had a doe walk within 15 yds and never look my way with the wind blowing toward her. I had two does that I jumped that took off after I stepped on a twig that sounded like a 22, they both stopped and then one of the does actually walked back to me when I stopped and came within 15 yds of me before I finally moved and made her run.
