I moved to Lee county off hwy 80 from Columbus, GA a year ago. I am planning on hunting Tuskegee National Forest this coming season. I have heard mix reviews about the area. Can anyone that has hunted there recently or before give me any info about the area.

You can kill deer just gotta find them. Put in the boot leather and find some natural browse off the beaten path and you will have success. Find corners sandwiched between private land and find some swamp chestnut oaks. That's my only local knowledge really I don't hunt there that much but have had success when I do

Get in deep and hunt the edge of the thick stuff. You can hike in to where it joins a couple of sod farms. I lived right next to it and hunted there while in college. I saw some nice bucks, killed a pretty good one and some smaller ones. Killed some turkeys and treed many coons

The deer will bust you and go to blowing a quarter mile from you but stick with it. There were plenty of trails you could hike in and then navigate the timber lines. Most people hunt right close to the road.

You should have no trouble filling your freezer with does in bow season. Set up on nearly any oak tree that's dropping and you'll most likely see deer, even very close to the roads. It gets pretty crowded during gun season.

Ohh and don't worry about joggers or bicyclist riding by while you're in the tree. The deer don't pay them any attention....again referring to mainly does in the early season.

Thanks to all for the info. I have never stepped a foot on this property so I really appreciate any leads on areas to stay away from or good spots to try. I have not hunted public land in over 20 years so I am a little skeptical from my last experience.

Get a map from the ranger station. It's got hardwoods labeled, creeks, food plots, and roads. Pick out areas that you think should look good by looking at aerial maps and then go park and look at the spots and scout. Only way to possible do it. No one is gonna tell you step by step directions to their spots.

Thanks jlbuc10 for the info. Thats exactly what my plans are to get an aerial map and lots of SCOUTING. Are you sure you don't want to send me your waypoints I have good hand held GPS
"just joking". I am more interested in areas to stay away because of bording hunting clubs, public favorite hangout, boarding neighboorhoods etc....

My coon dogs took me to some places that really paid off during deer season.

There is a few hundred acres of land on 29 on the opposite side from the rest of the national forest that no one ever hunted. I killed two turkey's on it.
