I need a new one. It's starting to sag in the middle. Can anyone suggest who to call? I'm in Birmingham area. 20' x 10' with 4' wide steps.

Here we go: Old decks tend to sag. It's a natural progression. There are products that allow your deck to be reinforced to the state it was in years ago. A deck that is used a lot tends to begin sagging much sooner than one that sees very little activity.

LOL! This one had to take a turn toward the obvious.

On a serious note, I'd pour a slab, add nice rails and build steps down to it before I ever build a wood deck again. That 'deck' will still be sturdy and hard and going strong when you are long gone laugh

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Have you had a bunch of big guys sitting on it at the same time?

If your deck is sagging maybe you should try jacking it up. If it still sagging after the first jacking, just try jacking it in a couple other places. Eventually after enough jacking, your deck won't sagg anymore. Jacking it is the key.

Grizz, you need to take better care of your deck. You are way too rough on it I'd guess. Either that or you've had 3Toe over on your deck. Ole Ned has broken many a deck I've been told. Just be alert to whom you allow on your deck...you really need some deck standards. The lower the deck standards the more saggy your deck will get.

You could always stiffen your deck by adding some sisters...as in deck joists. Then get a big sander and go to town on your deck to smooth it out if that is a problem. Or you could just shop around for a new deck. Just take care of it and apply a thick coat of deck protection liberally every year.

Straycat, you usually have good advice, but I have to disagree with using sandpaper on your deck. If you over sand it , that could lead to permanent sagging.

True. One must be careful not to over sand your deck. If you smell smoke, stop.

Generally flat as a board and 10-12" wide though....kinda grainy complexion...requires nailing.
