Sorry for not responding. Ive been hunting hard and was EXHAUSTED.
It was a very lucky year for me.

Yes one shot of my THREE hit him in the spine. It was very thick and I had one open lane. I heard the sound of chasing, and saw a doe burst accross the lane. He came following and stopped dead in the middle of my lane. I thought he was a narrow 3 year old 8 pointer with great potential, and was going to pass on him to be honest. Then another buck started towards him in the thicket and he turned to challenge him . When he turned I saw what he was and almost had a heart attack. I didnt even have my gun in my hands!
He started to walk towards the buck posturing. I saw the other buck was a real nice one too...a 4-5 year old. and wider,but this one has MASS like a small moose. He made it to the edge of the thicket just as I got my gun up. I blatted to stop him but he kept walking. As he just entered the thicket and about to offer me no shot..I yelled HEY just as I pulled the trigger.

He dropped from a high shoulder shot...but he didnt want to die...and tried getting up...so I aimed thru the sage grass and popped him again...lower spine. He still tried to drag himself off so I shot him thru the upper back into his neck as he had his head up trying to drag himself. The whole scenario was under 10 seconds. If they move..Ive learned to shoot until they arent anymore! BIG MATURE BUCKS are tough and their will to live unbelieveable so I dont stop until I anchor them.

as for location..lets just say it is an UNDISCLOSED location...but since I only hunt 2 places it would be a fair guess..its 1 of them!

And before i get ribbed for almost passin on him there is a reason. Where i hunt..you can only shoot BETTER then your last buck! and that 9 pointer was a stud....so I was 140 inches or better .
That buck is a fine example of what you can do in ALABAMA if you just MANAGE the hunting. Ive lived in Alabama 8 years and have shot 12 mature bucks. Most are better then the 9 pointer you saw in the pics. big 12 and 14 pointers that my friends think are Iowa, Illinois or Kansas deer when I first show them.

The genetics in Alabama are AWESOME...and the hunting in Alabama in my opinion can be as GOOD or BETTER then Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana etc. I know...I have had land in everyone of those states. And weve shot monsters there. But for length of season...amount of bucks you can harvest, and potential..I LOVE ALABAMA!

I see a ton of deer..Ive passed on almost 50 different bucks this year....to shoot these 2! Some that were studs..but too young. Ive never shot so many mature bucks over 4years old in any other state like I have in ALABAMA!
Luckily..I hunt with land owners and neighbors who like me only shoot mature bucks, and understand LOW IMPACT LOW PRESSURE hunting.

But he is just proof of what you read from BSK and others here. Alabama has great hunting...you just need to let any buck under 4 years old walk...and youll be suprised at what you can see!

of course thats if your interested in just shooting Big uns..and thats all I like to shoot. Of course..to each his own.

He will have to be pretty big for me to shoot. Over 150.

There are 4 I know of that fit the bill...two of them Ive seen already but one I had no shot on...and the other was yesterday...he ran into my lane after my shooting after that hot doe....but my "one buck a day" was already down. I think hes still in that area..there are huge rubs and scrapes along a low area from him i believe. Ill look for him in a few days i believe...

as lucky as Ive been...you never know!

I wouldn't wait. Get in there while they're chasing hot does. You know how often people shoot a big buck and then shoot another in the same place the next day!!! But, who am I to give you advice. It looks like you've got things going in the right direction there. That's two fine animals right there. Big congratulations and good luck the rest of the season.
