Mix up your cocktail sauce, put the oyster on a cracker and add the cocktail on top. You cant beat a couple dozen on the half shell. If your not a fan of the raw try Rockefeller or Cajun. The char grilled oysters a good, had a few dozen there at Wentzels, the resort has some great food too! The only problem with oysters these days is cost, I used to eat 10 dozen or more, these days that'll cost $100 plus. My wife's aunt didn't believe I could eat that many, she loves them raw too. They treated us to dinner just to see, I felt bad about the bill.

Is she going for the STI conference? My fiance has to speak there and I may go with her one evening. Yep, that is it.

You can't beat them raw w/cocktail sauce & horseradish, but the Bienville's are a close second. If your gonna go to a Wintzell's go ahead & make the trip across the bay back to Mobile & go to the original one downtown on Dauphin St.

With beer, plain raw with crystal hot sauce, raw on a cracker with hot sauce, the two previously mentioned ways but steamed in the shell on the grill. Do this by placing the oysters on the grill with shell intact, dont turn them, when the shell opens up a little they are done. My favorite way is steamed on the grill placed on a ritz cracker with garlic butter drizzled over them and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Also when you see your bill just remember that you can get a 60 lb burlap sack of them for 30-40 dollars at grocery stores in rural extreme south alabama. I was told its about 17 dozen.

I love oysters! Had a craving for some a few weeks back and talked the family into going to Wintzells at Point Clear. It was the absolute worst restaurant experience I've had in my 43 long years. Appetizers came out half cold. Hushpuppies weren't fully cooked. French Fries were the greasiest I've ever seen. The bread was so stale we couldn't even swallow it. The service was the worst I've ever had. I ordered the oyster sampler and didn't finish any of them. Maybe they were having a bad day. I've eaten at their other locations without an experience like that. But, that's $80 I wish I had back. That will be my last time eating at a Wintzells. There are tons of good places to eat oysters in this area, but that ain't one of them. Yep, everyone in Northeast Bama talking bout how good Wintzell's in Guntersville was. So a few years ago me and the Mrs. went, one word, sucked, prolly the worst shrimp I 've ever had at a restaurant. Never been back. And if you have a seafood place on the gulf ,it better be some kinda wonderful.

And if you have a seafood place on the gulf ,it better be some kinda wonderful. No doubt. They are completely living on tourists and their brand (which is deteriorating fast). Kraver's on the other hand, is the best fried seafood I've had anywhere. I haven't had oysters there, though.

I like raw oysters, but all you need is a good heavy glove, an oyster knife, and a bushel of oysters on ice. I like cocktail sauce and crackers, but if you eat them with oysters your just covering up the taste.
My favorite way to eat them and how I ate about 4-6 dozen over Thanksgiving in FWB was to put them on a hot charcoal grill, and eat them as they pop open on the grill. It gives them a smokey flavor. I like them hot and still full of juice, not grilled and dried out. Normally the oysters in the panhandle come from Apalachicola, but the oyster grounds were closed then and they oysters were from Texas. They were some of the best (saltiest) oysters I have had in years.
The oysters at Wintzells, at least the one in Guntersville, are a poor excuse for raw oysters. They have been shucked for hours and dried out.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
