Buds guns is one of the cheaper online sites. Probably going to be hard to get one online right now. Walmart has started carry AR15s if you care to go that route. I was told prices on ARs & AKs have gone up by $250 in some places. There are several online ammo site like luckygunner and sgammo. I know yesterday that luckygunner was out of .223 1000 round cases. It is a little late right now...going to be paying high prices probably. I think you need to also look at high capacity magazines which might become expensive.

AR parts are on backorder everywhere. I would love to build one with a spikes tactical lower but I just can't force myself to wait 12 months to get the damn parts.

You will just about have to either pay through the nose for whatever AR you might find in stock somewhere, or you will pay through the nose for whatever AR you can find on the used market.
You won't be building many, but it is possible.
I just completed an AR with:
Aero Precision Upper and Lower
AR Stoner 300 BLK barrel
CMMG LPK
Daniel Defense BCG
Yankee Hill Diamond Quad
Magpul accessories
Misc parts from Midway, Brownells, etc.
It's possible, but you'll have to buy what you can and accept what you can get.
